RonJohn® Gel Strip

1 of 6 products in this brand
RonJohn® Gel Strip is a high viscosity version of a unique solvent blend that effectively and safely removes most paints, coatings, and adhesives. RonJohn® Gel Strip is compliant to the Navy's TT-R2918 specification for aerospace paint removers and is now in certification testing to that specification. About the thickness of corn syrup, it is safe for use on metals, wood, fiberglass, concrete, and certain plastics like polyester, polyethylene, and nylon* . It can quickly soften or dissolve the toughest of coatings including: ship anti-fouling paints, aerospace catalyzed urethanes and epoxies, and many chemical resistant coatings such as Halar® and CARC. RonJohn® makes short work of wood varnish and concrete epoxy. It is a safer and more environmentally friendly replacement for processes that use toxic or flammable products like methylene chloride, MEK, alcohols, and other conventional solvents; better still, RonJohn® Gel Strip is a drop in alternative that works at room temperature. RonJohn® Gel Strip is as effective as its conventional counter-parts at removing polyurethane, epoxy, enamel, acrylic, and powder-coating. It dissolves vinyl, polycarbonate, PVC, and plexi-glass. It can even be used to remove burned on carbon deposits.

Application

RonJohn® Gel-Strip can be applied by brush or, if cut with RonJohn® Gel Strip to a workable viscosity, even sprayed. The work area can be covered with plastic film to slow evaporation even further – a standard practice in stripping. Depending upon the type of material being removed, typical wait times are from 30 minutes to an hour. Once RonJohn® Gel Strip has softened the material, simply scrap it away with a scrapper. Reapplication may be necessary for thick or otherwise difficult to remove paint systems of several coats. Waste from the stripping process can be disposed of according to local regulations for non-hazardous waste unless the material you are stripping is a hazard. RonJohn® products have a unique fruity aroma. If desired, once your removal is complete this aroma can be neutralized by washing with a mild household ammonia solution. Otherwise, this aroma will dissipate over time.

Coverage

RonJohn® Gel Strip will cover approximately 100 sq ft depending on the type, porosity, and thickness of the coating or adhesive being removed.

Compliance

With an NFPA 2,2,0 profile, RonJohn® Gel Strip is a great alternative to both dangerous conventional solvents and less effective green products. RonJohn® Gel Strip is also compliant with California's South Coast Air Quality Management District's (AQMD) under rules number 1124, 1136, 1164, and under 1171 exemption G.2.G when used to remove cured materials.

Safety & Health

Safe Handling
  1. Proper protective wear should always be worn. Users should wear butyl rubber or heavy latex gloves, eye protection, and when in poorly ventilated areas a solvent-rated filtered mask.
  2. In case of contact with skin, wash with soap and water.
  3. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
  4. Do not ingest. If ingested, do not induce vomiting and seek immediate medical attention.
  5. RonJohn® Liquid Strip is a combustible material. Keep away from ignition sources.
  6. NMP, a major component of RonJohn® Liquid Strip, is listed in California’s Proposition 65 as a reproductive toxicant. Use as instructed.
