DuraTite® Repair Mortar

1 of 4 products in this brand
DuraTite® Repair Mortar is quick-setting, single-component, ready-to-use repair mortar for vertical and overhead applications. DuraTite® Repair Mortar consists of Portland cement, specially treated quartz sand, and fiber reinforcements that reduce shrinkage and limit cracking. Chemicals withinDuraTite® Repair Mortar react with water and by-products of cement hydration to cause a catalytic reaction, creating a crystalline complex integral to the concrete. The crystals grows in the presence of water and block the pours in the concrete and minor cracks, waterproofing the concrete. Once the solution is mixed, it may take several days for the pores to be completely blocked.

Applications & Uses

Application Area
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Typical Applications
  • Seal strips, reglets, and coves at joints to assure water tightness.
  • Patching of tie holes and faulty construction joints.
  • Patching and filling of routed out cracks.
  • Repairing of spalled and honeycombed areas.
Product Application

Basic Requirements

  • Cracks should be routed out to a U-shaped configuration, approximately ¾” wide and a minimum of ¾” deep.
  • Tie holes should be roughened prior to filling.
  • Surfaces must be moistened to a dull dampness at the time of application.
  • Should be damp with no wet sheen on the surface.

Application Rates

1lb/ft2

Application Method

  • Mixing - Routed crack, coves, and non-moving joints: Add water to DuraTite®  Repair Mortar until a medium stiff consistency is reached. The texture of the mix should be pliable enough to be trowelled into the cracks with some pressure, but not so pliable that it would run out or sag out of the crack. Approximate mixing ration is 5.5 quarts powder to quart water (5.5 parts powder to 1 part water). Tie holes and pointing applications: Add only a small amount of water. Mixed consistency should be that of dry earth, holding a shape when squeezed in your hand but easily crumbled when pressed between fingers. Mix only as much material as can be used within 20 minutes.

Application

  • Cracks/seal strips (reglets and coves) - After proper surface preparation and routing to appropriate configuration, prime areas to be patched or repaired with a slurry coat of DuraTite Foundation and, while green and tacky, fill the cavity flush to surface with DuraTite repair Mortar in mortar consistency.
  • Spalled and honeycombed areas - Prepare a surface and chisel back to sound concrete. Prime area to be repaired with a slurry coat of DuraTite Foundation. While still green and tacky, apply DuraTite Repair Mortar in layers of ½” not to exceed 2.5”. Each layer should be allowed to set long enough that it will leave only a slight indent approximately 1/16” when pressed with a finger. Where possible, the surface of the repair should be packed tightly using a hammer and block of wood.
  • Tie holes and pointing applications - Prepare surface and chisel back to sound concrete. Prime area to be repaired with a coat of Duratite Foundation and, while still green and tacky, apply repair Mortar in dry earth consistency. DuraTite Repair Mortar should be tightly rodded into tie holes or packed tightly using a hammer and block of wood.
Limitations
  • Do not apply DuraTite®  Repair Mortar at temperatures below 40°F or if temperatures will fall below in the next 24 hours.
  • This product is not recommended for use in expansion joints or other joints designed for movement or that experience variable loading.
