- Uses
Suitable for use over substrates such as modified bitumen, granulated cap sheets, masonry, BUR, wood, concrete or previously coated surfaces. Contact KM Coatings Technical Services for other substrates and conditions not listed. Designed for use as a surface primer for both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Promotes enhanced adhesion of acrylic elastomeric materials. Can also be used to penetrate and adhere reinforcement fabrics when required.
- Application Instructions
Surface Preparation:
Surfaces to receive primer must be clean, dry and free from any foreign matter such as dirt, oils, grease or other debris that could adversely affect the primer to surface adhesion. Min-Prime can enhance adhesion to most surfaces. However, do not apply to wet or visibly damp surfaces, or surfaces previously covered with coal tar based products or silicone finishes. If there are questions with regards to substrate suitability, please contact KM Coatings Technical Services. Check all flashings, edges, drains, valleys and vents, and repair as needed.
Application:
Mix well prior to application. Application Rate: Apply approximately 1 gal. per 100–300 sq. ft. for most applications. Actual rate may vary depending on product application and surface conditions. Min-Prime may be applied by high-pressure and lowpressure spray equipment. Smaller work areas can be accomplished with medium nap roller or a brush. To improve adhesion, allow drying until dry to the touch. Drying times will vary depending on application rate, porosity of surface, temperature and humidity. Maximum wait time from initial application is 12 hours. Do not apply if there is a threat of inclement weather or contaminates that would affect adhesion of subsequent products. When utilizing Min-Prime to embed reinforcing fabric, first apply Min-Prime to a small section of the roof where the fabric reinforcement will begin. Embed and encapsulate the end of the fabric roll so that it is anchored at that point. Roll out approximately 4 feet of fabric at a time and apply Min-Prime evenly over the top side at the rate of 2 to 3 gallons per 100 sq. ft. allowing the fabric to completely saturate and follow the surface form and features.- Spray Equipment
Min-Prime can be applied by conventional airless spray equipment designed for the purposes of field application of fluids, paints and coatings. The following minimums are recommended:
Pump: 1.6 gal/min output; 2,500 psi
Gun/Tip: Airless hand gun. Reversible tip with orifice sizes ranging from .019–.025 and a fan angle of 40° or 50°.
Hose: Minimum inside diameter of high pressure nylon hose of 3⁄8" to 75'; 1⁄2" to 200'. For any hose over 200', the inside diameter should be 5⁄8" to 3⁄4".
Refer to equipment manufacturer product guidelines.
