Omega-3 fatty acids have become one of the best-selling, most talked-about dietary supplements. Their glaring success can be attributed to the many health benefits they provide, backed by a myriad of clinical studies. Specifically studied were the beneficial effects of the two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Findings led the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in 2004 to give qualified health claim status to EPA and DHA for cardiovascular health, as they may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
