Intumescent coatings are prepared from FRC EX4 by adding the powder to water using a high-shear mixer followed by addition of the latex to the slurry. The amount of FRC EX4 added to the latex/water coating will vary between 35 and 50 per cent depending on the latex used, the coating properties needed, and the flame spread required.
NOTE: While FRC EX4 is an excellent flame retardant for many different systems, each system must be evaluated to determine compatibility and flame spread rating.
