It is a superior humectant in a wide range of products, including confections, cosmetics, and certain beverages and foods. Because of its sweet but non-cariogenic nature, it is used in sugar free foods, dentifrices, and pharmaceuticals. It is also used as a plasticizer, stabilizer and as a raw material in the manufacture of sorbitan esters/polysorbates and polyurethanes.
