20 Microns entered into the TiO2 space with its newest ultra-fine Buff Colored TiO2 branded “Glowtox”. It is a surface treated rutile Titanium Dioxide that is beige in color and offers comparable performance characteristics such as opacity to white titanium dioxide. It is a high purity micronized pigment and cost effective. In many products which require opacity and color but which do not have to be pure white, buff titanium dioxide can economically replace all or part of the titanium white or other expensive pigments that may be used. Glowtox Buff & BLK is a buff and dark gray color TiO2 and is in a pure rutile form. It has excellent stability which makes it ideal for use in high temperature applications. It can replace white TiO2 in darker shades and is recommended for use in variety of liquid epoxy coatings, sealants, underbody coating, epoxy grout, protective coating etc.

Over 15 years ago, Miyoshi Kasei introduced its novel Amino Acid surface treatment technology for cosmetic applications. This patented technology, designated NAI (replacing the original AI, animal-derived treatment) is based on the chemical bonding of Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate to pigments and substrates. The NAI treatment was quickly embraced worldwide because of its unique benefits. The Compatibility of NAI treated pigments in silicone-based systems has been amply demonstrated by their usage in a number of commercially available W/S liquid foundations. NAI and NAID is longwearing and provides a moist, dewy feel while being much easier to disperse in oils and silicones.

Mica is a natural mineral used as a cosmetic powder that aids in the spreading of cosmetics. Due to its reflective properties, mica enhances a softer and more youthful look when used in cosmetic formulations. In its native form, Mica resembles metal in thin rock sheets or flakes, with an iridescent, pearly luster. Biogenic Magicolor beads are produced through a unique, patented multi-layer encapsulation technology, offering a high load of iron oxide pigments and titanium dioxide. The pigment's true color is only revealed upon application. This technology can be used in emulsion systems, pressed powders, and anhydrous lip products.

Primrose silica coated pigments are hydrophilic pigments that are ideal for O/W and water-rich systems. The silica coating, with a refractive index similar to human skin, provides a soft focus effect by increasing diffuse reflection. As the trends towards O/W systems continues, Primrose pigments help overcome some of the typical drawbacks of O/W systems such as gritty feel, weak color development, and wet/dry color stability. MiyoAQUA is a hydrophilic surface treatment based on alginate. This anionic polysaccharide is found naturally in oceans around the world in the cell walls of brown algae and kelp. Inorganic pigments such as iron oxide and pigmentary titanium dioxide surface treated with sodium alginate are highly hydrophilic and provide excellent dispersibility and re-dispersibility into the water phase.

Our Timiron® line of silverwhite and interference pigments adds sophistication to virtually any formulation. The versatile pigments add an extra dimension of pearlescence to cosmetics or personal care products. The majority of our Timiron® silverwhite pigments is characterized by variable titanium dioxide layers on natural or synthetic mica or aluminum oxide platelets. Our silverwhite pigments vary in particle size distribution, ranging from 1 – 15 μm (Timiron® Supersilk MP-1005) to 20 – 180 μm (Timiron® Ice Crystal). Depending on their particle size and pigment composition, they display different silverwhite lustrous effects ranging from subtle to satiny, pearly, metallic, or even sparkly.

Bismicas are pearl pigments that have a uniquely bonded combination of pigments, bismuth oxychloride and muscovite mica. These pearlescent pigments provide vibrant color with a subtle satin luster. They are primarily used in pressed powders, eyeshadows, and lip products.

Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate is a synthetic compound derived from fatty acid. When Iron Oxides are surface treated with Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, they display strong color development properties with increased adhesion to the skin. TPT is very reactive to almost all pigments and forms a uniform coating of lipophilic isostearate groups. There are abundant fatty ester groups on the treated surface; therefore, the titanate treated pigments can be easily wetted by and dispersed in organic vehicles, like esters, mineral oils or petrolatum. Oil absorption is substantially reduced, allowing the loading of pigments in the formula to be increased. TPT treated pigments are suitable for liquid foundations, lipsticks, blushes, eye shadows, and sunscreens.
