- Andisil 1189 Silane has many important applications:
- As a size constituent or finish for glass fabric composites
- As an additive and for the chemical modification of adhesives and sealants
- For pretreatment of fillers and pigments used in mineral-filled polymers
- As a primer and additive for improving the adhesion of paints and coatings to the substrate.
- As a high flexible adhesion promoter in SMP-systems
The most important product properties that can be achieved using Andisil® 1189 Silane include:
- Flexural strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity
- Improved moisture and corrosion resistance
Andisil® 1189 Silane reacts rapidly with isocyanate groups and (being a secondary amine) eliminates the undesirable side reactions produced by primary amines. This allows a very clean reaction with isocyanate terminated pre-polymers to produce SPUR polymers resulting in trialkoxy terminated pre-polymers. The polymers cure rapidly upon exposure to moisture, but no longer contain free isocyanate groups which present a sensitization hazard. Also, isocyanate functional adhesives and sealants can generate bubbles upon reaction with excess water which are detrimental to product performance. These are very useful in adhesives, sealants and coatings. This allows the formulator to develop proprietary SPUR polymers that are not commercially available, so properties can be tailored to their specific needs

Technical Details & Test Data
- Reactivity
- In the presence of water, the methoxy groups of Andisil® 1189 Silane hydrolyze to form reactive silanol groups that can bond to a variety of inorganic substrates. The organophilic n-butylamino group of Andisil® 1189 Silane can react with a suitable polymer. The hydrolysis of Andisil® 1189 Silane in water takes place by acid catalysis ex) acetic acid at a PH of 3). To achieve solubility in organic solvents 2 - 4 wt% of water per wt% of Andisil® 1189 Silane should be added. After stirring for 5 hours the solutions are ready for use. Examples of suitable organic substrates are: glass, fibers, glass wool, wollastonite and kaolin. Andisil® 1189 Silane may be used with polymers such as epoxy, polyurethanes, PA, PBT, EVA, modified PP and silicones.Andisil® 1189 Silane is a particularly effective coupling agent for thermoplastics. Superior mechanical properties can be achieved in reinforced MAA-modified PE or polypropylene matrices as well as polyamide. Andisil® 1189 Silane treated fibers and fillers offer a superior performance over standard aminosilanes in challenging environments. Andisil® 1189 Silane can be used as an endcapper for polyurethanes (isocyanatoprepolymer).

Storage & Handling
- Storage & Shelf Life
- Customers considering the use of this product should review the latest Safety Data Sheet and label for product safety information, handling instructions, personal protective equipment if necessary, and any special storage condition required. The “Best use before end” date of each batch is shown on the product label. Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
