Applications

Silanes are used in a variety of industrial applications as:

  • Adhesion promoters
  • Coupling agents
  • Crosslinkers
  • Moisture scavengers
  • Resin additives
  • Surface modifiers

Andisil® 137 Silane is a monomeric medium-chain alkyl functional silane. Andisil® 137 Silane is a clear, colorless liquid with an odor characteristic of alcohols.

Penetrating sealers containing Andisil® 137 Silane can provide excellent protection for bricks, stone, masonry, wood, and other substrates. The performance of many existing waterrepellent, sealer, stain, and coating formulations can also be enhanced by the addition of Andisil® 137 Silane and/or organofunctional silanes.

The dispensability and compatibility of filler and pigment particle in coating and sealant formulations can be improved by adding Andisil® 137 Silane or by using it as a pretreatment for the pigments, The particulate surface is made more hydrophobic and organic-like making it more compatible with typical coating, adhesive, and sealant vehicles.

Technical Details & Test Data

Reactivity

Andisil® 137 Silane is a monomeric alkylalkoxysilane that is reactive when exposed to moisture, with the minerals contained in concrete, masonry, and other substrates. This monomer can penetrate deeply into a substrate and then react to form a protective surface surrounding each microscopic particle. This protective surface is extremely durable and leads to significant improvements in weather resistance. Andisil® 137 Silane is easily dissolved in organic solvents to form clear, colorless, stable solutions.
