Andisil® 1891 Silane

1 of 500 products in this brand
Mercapto-functional silane used as a coupling agent in polysuflide and polyurethane caulks and sealants. Silanes are used in a variety of industrial applications. Organofunctional Silanes have an organic functional end group and an alkoxy functional end group which allow the silane to act as a bridge between organic materials and inorganic substrates. The organic functional group is matched to the resin system while the alkoxy group provides the reactive site for crosslinking. These materials are useful as adhesion promoters, crosslinking agents, surface modifiers and hydrophobizing agents.

Functions: Adhesion Promoter, Coupling Agent

Chemical Family: Silanes, Sulfur-based Compounds

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Acrylics, Chloroprene Rubber (CR), Epoxies (EP), Isobutylene-isoprene (IIR), Isoprene Rubber (IR), Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR), Polysulfide Rubber, Polyurethanes (PU), Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR)

  • Substrates
    • Mineral fillers
    • Polymeric coatings

Crosslinking:

  • Create structure in polymer network
  • Improve physical properties
    • Heat resistance
    • Hardness
    • Chemical Resistance

Dispersing Agent:

  • Improves filler wetting
  • Decreases viscosity which allows for high loading of silica

Applications & Uses

Applications
  • Mercapto-functional silane used as a coupling agent in polysuflide and polyurethane caulks and sealants
  • Useful in sulfur-cured and metal oxide-cured elasomers; Can be either added at the time of compounding or used to pretreat minerals before hand
  • Lower levels of this sulfur containing silane are used since it is efficient and fast
  • Chemically bonding reinforcing minerals like silica, clay, mica and talc to the polymer matrix; Properties including modulus, tensile and tear strength, heat buildup, abrasion resistance, resilience, compression set and cure time are improved in mineral-filled elastomers
