Incorporation

When used in mill-bases, add before grinding. In Bentonite dispersions use as follows:

85 - 87 parts of solvent
10 parts of Bentonite
5 - 3 parts of AFCONA-5008
100 Total

Addition and Dosage
  • 0.2 - 2.0% based on inorganic pigments
  • 2.0 - 5.0% based on organic pigments

For Bentonite gels use 30 - 50% on the Bentonites

Product Properties

AFCONA-5008 is an additive for pigment dispersion. It reduces the interfacial tension between pigments or extenders and the vehicle. It stabilizes the pigments through electrical charge repulsion forces.

AFCONA – 5008 has below special properties and recommended in below systems:
1) AFCONA – 5008 is a very compatible polymer. It can be used in all resin systems, ranging from none polar to high polar systems.
2) Often, AFCONA – 5008 is used in primer and some decorative paint. It also widely used in marine and heavy duty paints as these paint systems do not require very high gloss finishing and the chemical and physical properties are more important than the appearance.
3) Using AFCONA – 5008 will also decreased pigment sedimentation, because it will induce hydrogen bond formation in the system. However, for better antisettling products like AFCONA – 5066 and AFCONA – 5071 will perform much better.
4) In the dispersion of organically treated Bentonites, the use of AFCONA-5008 offers the following advantages: - shorter dispersion time - easier handling of the Bentonite gel - improved storage stability

Note: AFCONA – 5008 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the quality.
