AFCONA-5209 is the 100% version of AFCONA - 5009. It reduces the interfacial tension between pigments or extenders and the vehicle. It stabilizes the pigments through electrical charge repulsion forces.
AFCONA – 5209 has below special properties and recommended in below systems:
1)AFCONA – 5209 is an excellent choice forBentonite gelling where it result in excellentanti-sagging and anti-settle without increasetoo much of the system viscosity. To ensurea good Bentonite gelling paste as descriptabove, AFCONA – 5209 must beincorporated before loading the Bentonitepowder.
2)Often, AFCONA – 5209 is used in primerand some decorative paint. It also widelyused in marine and heavy duty paints asthese paint systems do not require very highgloss finishing and the chemical andphysical properties are more important thanthe appearance.
3)Using AFCONA – 5209 will also decreasedpigment sedimentation, because it willinduce hydrogen bond formation in thesystem. However, for better anti-settlingproducts like AFCONA – 5066 andAFCONA – 5071 will perform much better.
4)AFCONA – 5209 are best in long oil,medium oil, short oil, NC, TPA, Acid curing,polyurethane and epoxy system.
Note: AFCONA – 5209 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. It will form crystallization if store at temperature below 2C. Upon reheat, this will not influence the quality.
