- Humic acids are substances present in the organic fraction of soils and come from the chemical and biological degradation of animal and vegetable residues and from the synthetic activity of microorganisms; one of the fundamental characteristics of humic substances is the ability to form complexes, both soluble and insoluble in water with metal ions, and to carry out a marked positive action on the development and growth of plants.
- The humic acids in the soil are particularly effective in retaining nutritional materials and making them gradually accessible to plants, furthermore they possess a marked stimulating action in the radical absorption of potassium combined with the prerogative of hindering its entry into the crystalline lattices of clayey materials thus preventing retrogradation.
- The use of humic acids with nitrogen is important, this replaces the function of slow-transforming organic nitrogen which would ensure the supply of nitrogen towards the end of the vegetative period.
- Low N / humic acid ratios promote slow plant development (suitable, for example, on annual plants).
- High N / humic acid ratios are suitable for rapid development (flowers, horticulture, etc.).
