Altivia Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol (MIBC) is a stable, colorless liquid with a mild alcoholic odor. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents. MIBC is commonly used by the coatings industry as a latent solvent to adjust cure rates and to reduce viscosity. It is also used as a solvent for dyes and stains, nitrocellulose and ethylcellulose lacquers, ester gums, natural resins, phenolics, and waxes. Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol is also referred to as 4-methyl-2-Pentanol or Isobutyl Methyl Carbinol.
