Andean Grain Products sources quinoa from local farmers in the highlands of Bolivia and Peru. Quinoa is a native to the Andean region and is a hardy plant that is farmed at higher altitudes in the cool climate of the Andean mountains. Andean Grain Products quinoa is sustainably produced and is a highly nutritious “superfood” with a flavor that has been described as slightly nutty and sweet with a crunchy texture. Quinoa is a good source of complete protein, containing all essential amino acids. Quinoa also provides significant amounts of dietary fiber and phosphorous, and is high in vitamins and minerals including magnesium, iron, and calcium. Quinoa is a gluten-free food and is considered easy to digest. In its natural state, quinoa has a coating of bitter tasting saponins, which must be removed before it is palatable to eat.
