Almond (Prunus Amygdalus) plant native to Central-Western Asia, now widespread throughout the Mediterranean area thanks to the Phoenicians who introduced it in Sicily. It is a long-lived plant with narrow and serrated leaves, white or slightly pinkish flowers, fruits having the typical elongated oval shape and inside the almond. The almond represents a true concentrate of active ingredients including polyphenols, flavonoids and Vitamin E (tocopherol) playing a central role in the cosmetic field for their antioxidant properties.
