In 2017, the Bank Brothers family purchased Hubbert’s Industries to expand our operations while providing our customers and suppliers with the same level of quality and service we are known for. The story of Hubbert’s Industries dates back to 1899 when founder, Walter Hubbert, opened a butcher shop in Toronto, later setting up a small rendering operation. The company gradually expanded its operations and expanded its offerings to include blended beef shortenings, lard, vegetable oil, and vegetable oil shortening. More recently the company added equipment allowing permit bulk rail tanker receiving and shipping, achieved of BRC Certification (the first oil processor in Canada to do so) and added a full line of Halal Certified vegetable oils.

Hubberts Pure Beef Dripping™ is a legacy product that has been made the same way for over 100 years. When a beef roast is cooked in the oven, beef fat is rendered from the meat. This fat collects in the bottom of the roasting pan and imparts a distinct flavor to the food. Hubberts Pure Beef Dripping is made this way by heating beef fat and recovering the rendered tallow. It cooks and improves the flavor of fish filets, chicken fingers, pork cutlets, potatoes and vegetables. The dripping is lightly filtered so the fat is a pale, golden brown. It still carries a hint of beef flavor and aroma when heated and remains heat stable, therefore reducing the frequency of frying oil changes. No other ingredients are added so it is a clean label product.

Bakers Lard™ can be used for baking, deep frying and making Mexican foods such as tortillas. As with our Canadian Premium Lard™, the fat is sourced in Canada and refined and deodorized to enhance the flavor of the foods being prepared. As with all of our pure lard-based products, there are zero trans-fats. When baking, it promotes flakiness in pie shells and pizza crusts. As a deep-frying fat, it is similar to beef fat in its ability to enhance the flavors of the food being cooked. Bakers Lard contains antioxidants to promote a longer frying life.

Fryers Choice® is made from rendered beef fat. The product, however, is refined, bleached and deodorized in a way to make it suitable for commercial deep frying. The beef aroma and color are removed so only the flavors of the food being cooked are tasted. Beef fat is approximately 40% saturated and 60% mono- and polyunsaturated fat. This adds stability during cooking so the fat does not break down as quickly during repetitive use. Antioxidants are added to extend the cooking life and antifoaming agents prevent foaming when foods are added to the hot fat.

Canadian Premium Lard™ is used in baking applications to produce light, flaky crusts. Made from Canadian sources in Ontario and Manitoba, Canadian Premium Lard™ produces the flakiness that the best chefs seek for their pie crusts and pastries. It blends easily with flour and when baked, the lard crystals melt away leaving pastry flakes. Canadian Premium Lard is fully refined and deodorized so the distinctive flavor and aroma of lard is removed and the taste of baked goods fully comes through. There are no trans-fats and the product is high in oleic acid (similar to olive oil). A small amount of citric acid is added to extend the shelf life.

Can Sun® Frying Oil is a blend of mid-oleic sunflower and canola oil that combines the best qualities of both oils. It can be used as a salad oil as well as a deep-frying oil. Antioxidants and antifoam agents are added to extend the frying life.

Bank Brothers Sustainable Ingredients Multi-Purpose Shortening is a deep-frying fat combining the best features of Hubberts Pure Beef Dripping™ and Fryers Choice®. The fat is only partially deodorized so it retains a mild hint of beef taste and flavor. It is an excellent choice for making fish and chips and other fried foods. Antioxidants and antifoaming agents are added at a low level to prolong the life of the fat in deep fryers.

Proextra® Liquid Shortening combines the low saturated fat level of canola with the crystallizing ability of palm oil, enabling its use for both baking and deep-frying. It has a creamy white appearance similar to animal-based shortenings. Antioxidants and antifoam agents are added to improve frying life.

Bank Brothers Sustainable Ingredients Special Blend is a lard-based frying fat combined with a small amount of beef tallow. As with our other pork products, it is formulated from deodorized Canadian lard making it suitable for both baking and deep frying. Antioxidants and antifoam agents are added to extend the frying life. This product is popular in Québec where it complements traditional Québécois cuisine.

Hubberts Pure Beef Dripping™

Transition® Sunflower Oil is formulated with mid-oleic cultivars to raise the monounsaturated fatty acid levels to those seen in olive and canola oil. It’s high smoke point allows it to be used as a deep-frying medium and it imparts a light, neutral taste to cooked foods. Antioxidants and antifoam agents are added to extend shelf life. Sunflower oil by nature offers a non-GMO alternative to soybean and canola oil as there are no commercially grown GMO equivalents of sunflowers.

Bank Brothers Sustainable Ingredients Liquid Fry Shortening is a newly formulated blend of soybean oils that will produce appetizing, excellent tasting fried foods whether deep fried or griddle fried. Liquid Fry Shortening can be purchased in a standard bottle-in-box (BNB) or a heavy-duty pail that can be repurposed for other uses in your kitchen. The antioxidants are a combination of a natural preservative, rosemary extract with ascorbic acid (vitamin C). An antifoam agent is also added for safety during deep-frying.

Venus™ Superfine Canola oil is a highly refined vegetable oil produced by Canadian and USA oilseed refiners. Among the most common vegetable oils, it has the highest content of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids including alpha linolenic (ALA), an essential Omega-3 fatty acid. Venus Superfine Canola is a liquid oil that is suitable for salad dressings, wok frying and sautéing.
