Identification & Functionality

Composition

Solution of medium molecular weight epoxy resin in organic solvents.

Features & Benefits

Features
  • Chemically and mechanically resistant coating.
  • The varnish is intended for the production of highly glossy and hard transparent coatings of wood, fibreboard, metals and some types of plastic materials, as well as for impregnation of absorbent substrates (e.g. concrete, masonry).
  • The varnish has excellent hardness and high gloss, excellent chemical resistance to a number of solvents, oils, alkalis and fuels.
  • Resists moisture and temperatures up to 120 °C.
  • The product has been approved for coating the surfaces of food equipment that come into direct contact with food.
  • The varnish is not intended for coatings that come into direct contact with drinking water and for coatings of children's furniture and toys.

Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Preparation of the Substrate
  •  Before application, the wood must be clean, dry, well sanded, with a maximum moisture content of 12%.
  • Wood with increased content of resins (larch, pine) should be freed from all resin spills with thinner C 6000.
  • The final appearance of the coating and its service life depend on the quality of the pre-treatment of the wood.
  • Prime the wood surface first with diluted epoxy varnish to ensure uniform absorption of the substrate.
  • Then sand the surface of the wood with fine sandpaper, then apply the final layers of epoxy varnish.
  • The metal substrate must be clean, dry, free of grease, rust and dust, mechanically cleaned.
Application Conditions
  • During the application period and throughout the drying period, the minimum air and substrate temperature must be 10°C, and the maximum 35°C.
  • The optimal temperature for applying the paint is 18°C to 23°C and relative humidity 40 to 70%.
  • Lower temperature and higher relative humidity during application and drying and too thick layer of the applied film significantly slow down the drying and hardening of the paint film.
  • High relative air humidity and increased humidity of wood or masonry cause defects in the paint film.
  • The type, surface and possibly previous coating of the wood affect the resulting shade of the coating.
  • Natural wood changes color under the influence of light, independent of varnish.
  • In the case of exotic types of wood, due to the influence of the varnish on the resulting shade of the wood, it is advisable to test the varnish on a small area first.
  • It is recommended to apply at least 3 topcoats to new floors.
  • A higher thickness of the resulting layer improves the overall quality and durability of the coating.
  • For the first 14 days, it is necessary to protect the coating from careless handling and intensive washing of the surface with water.
Work Progress
  • Before use, the varnish is mixed with the hardener S 7300 in the prescribed ratio, properly mixed and diluted as necessary.
  • It is applied to a previously prepared base.

Transparent Wood Coating:

  • 1x epoxy varnish epolex wood varnish S 1300 diluted with thinner for a flow time from the cup of 15-25 s (add 15-20% by weight to the hardened mixture), drying 24 h / 23°C.
  • Light sanding with sandpaper No. 280-320 and removal of the cloth.
  • 1x epoxy varnish epolex wood varnish S 1300, drying 24 h.
  • Sanding with sandpaper No. 320 and removing the cloth
  • 1x epolex wood paint S 1300 epoxy paint.
  • Drying and curing of the paint can be accelerated (if the painted substrate allows it) by drying at an elevated temperature, e.g. at 60°C for 60 minutes, at 80°C for 45 minutes, at 100°C for 30 minutes.
  • The coating can be sanded and polished with sanding paste and polish.
Method of Application
