Active Ingredients
  • Each gram contains: 630 mg of Sulfamethazine Sodium 315 mg of Sulfathiazole Sodium.
  • 2 Sulfamed is a strawberry flavored, soluble mixture of the sodium salts of Sulfamethazine and Sulfathiazole for the treatment of bacterial diseases of cattle and swine that are susceptible to sulfonamides. A red dye is included in the product to alert users to the presence of sulfonamides.

Indications:

Swine - As an aid in the treatment of enteritis and respiratory diseases caused by bacteria sensitive to sulfamethazine and sulfathiazole.

Cattle - As an aid in the treatment of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, metritis, enteritis, foot rot, mastitis and shipping fever complex.

Dosage & Administration:

Swine and Cattle - Herd Medication: Dissolve 567 g in approximately 10 L of water. Add to each 340 L of drinking water the first day and to each 500 L on the second and subsequent days.

Individual Treatment for Cattle:

Administer as a drench: On the first day, 60 mL of a 12.5% solution or 30 mL of a 25% solution per 35 kg of body weight, on the second, third and fourth day, administer half of the dosage of the first day.

How to Prepare Solution:

For a 12.5% solution: Dissolve 567 g in water to make a total volume of 4.5 L of solution.

For a 25% solution: Dissolve 567 g in water to make a total volume of 2.27 L of solution. Use warm water and stir thoroughly.

NOTE

1 Tbsp. (15 mL) is equivalent to 7 g.

Safety & Health

Caution

If improvement is not seen within 48 hours, medication should be discontinued and diagnosis and the treatment re-evaluated. Generally, treatment should not exceed 4 days. Do not administer to animals with known sensitivity to sulfonamides or with renal impairments. Severely dehydrated animals should not be treated with this drug. Treated animals should have easy access to drinking water to maintain an adequate hydration and miction.

WARNING(S): Treated animals must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 10 days after the latest treatment. Do not use in lactating dairy cattle. Do not administer in swine feed.
