Additional Information
A study showed that ricinoleic acid derivatives exhibited considerable antimicrobial activity; in fact, their activity against some micro-organisms was comparable to sorbic and 10-undecenoic acid, known antimicrobial agents. Thanks to its activity, castor oil can be used for the formulation of anti-acne skin treatment as well as for purifying hair care. A study indicates that topical application of ricinoleic acid, the main component of castor oil, exerts remarkable analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The results of the study showed that ricinoleic acid may be seen as a new capsaicin-like, non-pungent anti-inflammatory agent suitable for peripheral application. Castor oil is a good emulsifier and emollient because it maintains its structure at extremely high and low temperatures. Castor oil is characterized by a high viscosity which makes this oil a great dispersible agent suitable in make-up formulations. Study showed that β-Sitosterol stimulates the growth of hair. Thanks to its efficacy, Castor oil could be suitable in hair care growth treatment as well as in eyelash growth products.
