    Features & Benefits

    Whitening

Melanin, the pigment in charge of skin and hair color, is synthesized when skin is exposed to ultraviolet
light, certain drugs or chemicals. It may also be synthesized under the existence of disease or as a
result of post-inflammatory response to trauma, chemical peels, laser therapy, or acne. Global market of
skin whitening, especially market in Asia, is growing at an unprecedented rate. Asians demand for
products to get purer look, while Europeans endeavor to reduce age spots and freckles. The general
mechanism of skin whiteners is to reduce the level of tyrosinase, to regulate the activity of tyrosinase, to
hinder the uptake and distribution of melanosomes in recipient keratinocytes, and/or to promote break
down of melanin and turnover of pigmented keratinocytes.
Most of whiteners developed by BioSpectrum, Inc. are multifunctional, meaning that beside the
whitening activity, they have other skin care activities, such as anti-aging, soothing, anti-inflammation
and/or anti-oxidation. Efficacy and safety of all of our ingredients is verified in vitro and in vivo.

    Product Background

Some products in the HerbEx Series are made with ingredients
from Jeju Island, the largest Island in Korea with a very clean
natural environment and the richest repository of natural
resources in Korea. We collect plants native to Jeju Island to
incorporate the island's pureness and moistness into cosmetics.
The value of Jeju Island was recognized by Biosphere Reserve
in 2002, World Natural Heritage in 2007, and Global Geopark
in 2010, making the sub-tropical island the only place in the
world to receive all three UNESCO recognitions. Jeju Island
has become a treasure island of environmental assets that the
    world has to preserve.
