During the late 19th century, Frederick Sondheimer, forseeing the need for specal lubricants for the industrial growth taking place around Long Island City, established the BLACK BEAR COMPANY, INC. in early 1888. In 1937, during the depth of the depression, when BLACK BEAR COMPANY was acquired by Rowell A Schleicher, the Company turned its attention to recession-proof needs of state and government agencies. During World War II, BLACK BEAR COMPANY concentrated its progressive technology on military challenges -- solving problems for Army searchlights, Air Force bomb bay doors and creating highly effective corrosion preventatives for military aircraft -- applications which still find new applications to this day.

After World War II BLACK BEAR shifted its technology to the construction industry which was booming due to returning servicemen's housing demands. New lubricants were created such as track roller grease, non-leaking gear lubricants, non-dripping heat resistant grease and pioneering firsts in multi-purpose gear oils and multi-purpose greases. Not neglecting its industrial customers, special micro-switch greases and metal forming lubricants were also formulated to meet customers needs.

Black Bear Company 75W90 FULL SYNTHETIC GL-5 (6332) is a full synthetic, premium quality, commercial drive-train lubricant designed to meet the rigorous demands of extended drain warranty requirements. It provides outstanding performance in heavy duty drive-trains where extreme pressure and shock loading are common. Formulated for extreme cleanliness and superior thermal stability under severe conditions, this oil also offers enhanced friction reduction properties and exceptional shear stability.

Black Bear Company HD 5W-30 SYN BLEND SN/GF-5 (5902) are specially formulated using synthetic and Group II base oils and high performance additive packages to provide superior performance in gasoline fueled and flex-fueled engines. These oils are formulated for excellent oxidation stability and low temperature properties to insure protection during cold starts. BLACK BEAR HD 5W-30 SYN BLEND SN/GF-5 engine oils exceed the requirements of ILSAC GF-5 and are “Resource Conserving” for improved fuel economy.

Suitable for use in transmissions and gear cases where API GL-1 through API GL-4 protection is recommended. Mack GO-J and GO-J Plus (75W90) extended service classifications.

These oils are formulated for excellent wear protection and resist viscosity and thermal breakdown. They are designed to exceed the latest SN/GF-5 standards.

Black Bear Company EPX 80W90 GEAR LUBE GL-5 (6012) are multipurpose, extreme pressure gear lubricants which are recommended for hypoid and bevel gear sets used in many front and rear drive differentials. These gear oils are intended for service fill, top-off and refill of hypoid and other drive axles which recommend API GL-5 gear lubricants. Can be used as a top off in limited slip applications, but is not a limited slip capable product intended for fill or refill.
