Benefits

Silicone Water Repellent Concentrate will provide the following benefits to appropriate materials when properly applied.

  • Provides clear, non-discoloring, protective finish on ceramic, quarry, and mosaic tile, grout, unpainted interior or exterior limestone, marble, brick or other carbonaceous surfaces.
  • Imparts water repellency and reduces water absorption in abovegrade construction.
  • Permits surface breathability while preventing moisture entrapment. e Increases durability by improving resistance to wetting and drying and freezing and thawing cycles, as well as to air and water-borne salts and contaminants.
  • Preserves appearance by reducing efflorescence, staining, and dirt pickup.
Advantages
  • Elastiment 907 is an equeous silicone water repellent concentrate with the following features:
  • Formulated to produce a clear, non-textured, breathable, non-discoloring, water-repellent finish.
  • Highly alkaline. Compatible with carbonaceous surfaces. e Readily soluble in water and alcohol.
  • Hazards associated with storage and usage of organic solvent diluents may be avoided.
  • Economical. Pours easily, minimizing spillage and container run down.
  • Long shelf life - up to 12 months after date of delivery when stored in closed containers per manufacturer’s recommendation.

Application

The following are generally accepted recommendations for the use of silicone based masonry water repellent formulations.

Note: Before proceeding , be sure to provide yourself with all appropriate safety and protective equipment and to review applicable safety procedures.

Surface Preparation

Prepare the masonry surface by curing the mortar joints at least 3 weeks before applying the silicone solution. Clean the masonry surface by first scraping off tar, asphalt, or other residues. Then, blot off surface contaminants with clean rags dampened by a petroleum solvent, such as mineral spirits or kerosene. Remove all residues. Wash the masonry with an acid to remove efflorescence that can cause darkening of the surface when the silicone treatment is applied. Then wash and rinse the masonry with water or with a detergent solution 3 days to 2 weeks prior to silicone treatment. The detergent solution is preferred. Allow the masonry to dry thoroughly before applying the silicone. Three days drying following the detergent solution wash-down will suffice at temperatures above 50° F (10°C). Allow longer periods for temperatures under 50° F (10°C). Do not start if the temperature is below freezing. Protect shrubbery and other plants near the treating area with drop cloths. Mask windows.

If windows are accidentally sprayed, immediately remove solution with a cloth dampened with water. Once the solvent evaporates from the treating formulation, the silicone interacts with the glass and will adhere to the glass or aluminum with considerable tenacity.

Application Procedure

Brush or spray apply 1 coat solution. Use hydraulic spray equipment. Keep the spray system pressure at a nominal 5 pounds per square inch to control splashing. Minimize wind draft losses of solution by applying a course spray. The amount of water repellent applied to masonry surfaces should cause a minimum rundown of the solution on the wall at the point of application. After drying, the water repellent application will continue to cure. The length of time required for maximum water repellency is dependent on substrates and environmental conditions. Since at least 24 hours are required for initial cure, any significant rainfall during that period could remove the water repellent from exposed exterior surfaces. Under certain conditions of application, a white surface precipitate of sodium carbonate may be produced as the water repellent dries. Some limestone containing iron salts, which are soluble in applied solutions of sodium methylsilicate will exhibit staining. If you elect to apply the product under these known conditions, Boiardi Products can not be responsible for any damages that may occur. To prevent these and other potential problems, the following precautions should be taken:

  • Before applying water repellent formulation, treat a test area to determine the porosity and compatibility of the surface with the water repellent used.
  • Second coating, overlapped coating, or heavy rundown of water repellent should be avoided.
  • Prevent contact of water repellent with glass or aluminum. If contact accidentally occurs, immediately wash with water to remove all traces before staining can occur.

Safety

Avoid contact with skin where possible. Wash exposed skin areas promply with water. If product gets in eyes, rinse immediately and repeat. Get prompt medical attention.

Storage & Handling

Storage and Handing

Elastiment® 907 Water Repellent ia a water solution, and should be stored and applied at temperatures above 32°F (0°C). If storage temperatures are allowed to drop below freezing, a crystalline structure may develop. When restored to room temperature, the product will again become clear and ready for use. Do not store in aluminum or tin cans.
