Formulation Guidelines

• Calumet 600 Solvent from Calumet Lubricants Company is the recommended mineral seal oil and was used in the examples given in the formulary. Other mineral seal oils may require some minor formulation adjustments. Formulation adjustments also may be required if other commonly used additives (silicones, dyes, fragrances) are included in the formulation.
• If formulation modifications for clarity are required, then one or more of the following adjustments should be made: 1) increase the level of 1055D, 2) add (or increase the amount of) a nonionic surfactant, 3) reduce the level of glycol ether EB.
• The use of deionized or reverse osmosis water will reduce or eliminate mineral deposits from being left behind on the vehicle surface.
• Burcomul 1055D is not compatible with anionic surfactants.
• The use of solvents such as glycols, butyl ethers, and d-limonene as part of the wash-and-wax formulation is possible.
• To increase the amount of foam generated, surfactants such as Burcoterge C2P-39 (amphoteric) or Burco COPB-35 (betaine) can be added to the formulation.
