<p>CelluComp is a Scottish-based company located in Fife, near Edinburgh. Our team of scientists and business professionals work on the development and commercialisation of sustainable materials. Our principle activity is to develop and commercialize Curran®, a material developed from the extraction of nanocellulose fibers of root vegetables, primarily from sugar beet pulp, which is a by-product of the sugar industry. Curran® offers exceptional mechanical and rheological properties for numerous applications, such as paints and coatings, inks, personal care, home care, paper, food, concrete, drilling fluids, composites and other potential applications. We produce Curran® in our new and advanced manufacturing facility based in Glenrothes, Scotland, where we ensure top quality products for our customers that we serve globally.</p>

Curran® fibers are strong, stiff and light; properties which allow the production of composites with performance characteristics comparable to those based on conventional carbon fiber technology. Bio-composites based on Curran® can be based on a variety of conventional resins such as epoxy, polyurethane and polyester. The platelet structure of Curran® fibers also makes them effective rheology modifiers in end uses such as paints &amp; coatings, concrete, drilling fluids, cosmetics, personal care and home care products. The same platelet structure provides impressive reinforcing effects in paints &amp; coatings, concrete and some personal care products. Curran® is compatible in a variety of common water based polymer systems such as epoxies, acrylics and polyurethanes.

Curran® Reef, Barrier Coating is a coating for paper and cardboard packaging. The product is free from fluorine and can be recycled . With REEF: 2 coating as a single coat ( or topcoat) ,barrier coatings with excellent water repellency and very good grease proof properties towards grease and oil can be achieved. The REEF :2 coatings are heat-sealable and improved oxygen barrier.


Curran® Reef, Barrier Coating

Curran® Granules is a performance additive, based on novel fiber technology and derived from root crops, provides a unique set of properties for water based coatings. High technical performance combined with the renewable nature of Curran®, helps solve many of the challenges faced by the paints &amp; coatings industry today. Curran® is both green and multifunctional; using it as a film enhancer provides improved crack resistance and reduces film defects. It can also provide improved opacity and in some cases extended open time. There can be other benefits, such as enabling solvent reduction. With careful formulating, Curran® can bring improved performance and result in cost savings. Curran® also retains stability in a wide range of pH levels to make formulating easier .

High PVC Matt Wall Paint Based on Styrene Acrylic as Curran® Granules imparts some viscosity, it is necessary to reduce part of any existing thickeners. Here we have replaced part of the Bermocoll 320FQ® with Curran®, based on its active content. For dispersion, we are using a Dispermat mixer with a 5.5cm diameter saw tooth blade and 10cm diameter container at 1500rpm.
