Features & Benefits

Advantages
  • Polyseal WB is very low VOC emission product at <100 g/L VOC.
  • Protects concrete surfaces against deicing chemicals, fertilizers, salts, grease, oil, alkalis, mild acids, and detergents.
  • Minimizes spalling due to freeze-thaw cycle exposure, hair line checking, premature cracking, dusting and other common defects that result from improperly cured concrete.
  • May be applied over existing water and solvent based sealers (conduct a small test patch to ensure compatibility).
  • Seals out most construction dirt and stains. Prevents mortar, plaster, and concrete droppings from bonding to concrete surfaces.
  • Tint pack system available in twelve standard colors; special color matching available subject to minimum quantities.
  • Tinted Polyseal WB may be used to cure or seal rough finished colored concrete and aids in reducing the finishing imperfections or variations in color.

Applications & Uses

Application Area

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Uses
  • Interior concrete where a low odor curing compound that meets ASTM C1315 standards is desired.
  • Exterior concrete curing where a non-yellowing water-based, easy clean up, formulation is preferred.
  • Enhance color and provide a uniform appearance of dry shake hardened floors, integral colored concrete, and acid stained concrete while curing and sealing the surface.
  • Seal and dustproof older interior or exterior concrete.
Directions for Use

Mixing: Clear Polyseal WB requires no premixing. If using tint packs, add one unit of Polyseal WB Tint into 5 gallons of Polyseal WB and mix well. Do not dilute.
Surface Preparation: If using to cure fresh concrete, apply after final finish is complete and all bleed water has dissi-pated. If applying as a sealer for older concrete, clean thor-oughly with high-pressure water and allow the concrete to thoroughly dry. When sealing smooth trowel finished floors with tinted Polyseal WB, an acid wash, thorough rinse and dry-out is required.

Application: Apply uniformly leaving no pinholes or gaps. Do not allow the material to puddle.
Spray Apply with a low pressure, solvent resistant, airless, sprayer equipped with a fan nozzle orifice of 0.030 to 0.035” at 1 g.p.m. The optimum spray pattern is an 8” to 12” fan. Hold sprayer tip 8” to 12” from the surface of the concrete.
Roller Apply: Use a short nap (1/4” max) solvent resistant roller. Apply a continuous film leaving no pinholes or gaps.

Curing: Application Rate:
Curing: 300 ft2/gal (7 m2/L)
Sealer: 350 to 450 ft2/gal (8.6 to 11 m2/L). Unsealed con-crete may require optional second coat.

Formed Concrete Walls: If walls are not to receive further treatment, apply immediately after stripping forms or after rubbing procedures at a rate of 450 ft2gal (11 m2/L).

Colored Concrete: When sealing a steel trowel finished floor with tinted Polyseal WB, lightly acid wash the cleaned concrete and rinse well with potable water. Muriatic or citric acid opens the concrete pores and allows maximum pene-tration of the colored Polyseal WB.

Maintenance: Surfaces previously sealed with Polyseal WB should be cleaned and resealed every 3 to 5 years depending on exposure and traffic.

Cleanup

Before material dries and hardens, clean tools and equip-ment with warm water and detergent.

Regulatory & Compliance

Standard Specification
  • ASTM C1315, Type I & II, Class A, Standard Specification For Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing and Sealing Concrete
  • ASTM C309, Types 1 or 1D, Class A and B, Standard Specification for Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing Concrete
  • AASHTO M 148, Type 1 & 1D, Class A & B

Technical Details & Test Data

Limitations
  • Polyseal WB should not be used on surfaces to re-ceive concrete overlays or toppings. Consult Chem-Masters for compatibility of other surface treatments. Always test for compatibility, penetration and adhesion.
  • Do not use as a bond breaker for tilt wall construction or on surfaces requiring rubbing.
  • Do not apply Polyseal WB to joints or channels sched-uled to receive elastomeric caulks.
  • Polyseal WB Tint is made for use with water based formulations only. Do not use to tint solvent based ver-sions of Polyseal.
  • Tinted Polyseal WB is not a permanent remedy for poorly colored or finished flooring. Polyseal WB is a film forming sealer that will wear over time. Colored Polyseal WB is not intended as a stand-alone coating to color a concrete floor. If a more wear resistant color coating is required, consult ChemMasters Technical Service Staff.
  • Color uniformity of Tinted Polyseal WB will depend up-on concrete finish and absorptivity. A small test appli-cation is recommended to ensure acceptable single coat appearance. A second coat is not recommended.
  • Do not use if ambient or surface temperature is below 50°F (10°C). For best results, condition material to at least 60°F (16°C) prior to application.
  • Use when the temperature is 5oF (2.8oC) above the dew point.
  • Clear curing and sealing compounds may darken or highlight the subtle color variations naturally present in concrete. When the difference in shading caused by absorptive deviation or finishing techniques is objec-tionable, consult ChemMasters Technical Staff prior to concrete placement for recommendations.
