Advantages
  • CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive is water-based for personal and environmental safety; it contains no solvents, and presents no fire hazard during application.
  • Cleanup with water is quick and easy.
  • Because it dries clear, overspray is not objectionable.
  • Since CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive exhibits good tack, insulation can be immediately pressed into place, which results in high production rates.
  • The bond created between insulation and jacketing/substrate is strong, which helps prevent delamination to provide a longer service life.
  • May be used to seal or butter cut edges of duct liner insulation to retard fiber release. It can be applied to edges by brush, spray or dipping
  • CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive is versatile, being able to be applied in a wide variety of methods, including automatic coil lines and roll coaters to help reduce inventory requirements.

Uses

CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive is used in conjunction with low-density glass fiber and mineral fiber insulations. It adheres vapor barrier jacketing and facing materials, such as Foil Faced Kraft paper laminates (FSK) and All Service Jacketing (ASJ), to insulation. It adheres rigid board stock insulations to the interior/exterior surface of galvanized steel and/or aluminum metal ductwork prior to final securement. Seals edges of duct liner insulation to prevent fiber release.

Application

CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive is designed to be easily applied by brush, roller coat, low-pressure air assisted spray equipment, airless spray equipment or duct liner facing machines.

Suggested Specifications

Adhesion Of Vapor Barrier Jacketing To Insulation:

All vapor barrier jacketing facing materials shall be laminated to glass fiber or mineral fiber insulation with CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive. The adhesive shall be applied at a coverage rate between 200 to 600 sq. ft./U.S. gal. (4.9 to 14.7 m2/liter).

Adhesion Of Insulation To Metal Ductwork:

All glass fiber (or mineral fiber) insulation shall be adhered to the underlying metal (or metal ductwork) with CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive prior to final securement with specified mechanical fastening devices. The adhesive shall be applied at a coverage rate between 200 and 600 sq. ft./U.S. gal. (4.9 to 14.7 m2/liter).

Use of Material

CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive requires no mixing or preparation prior to application. Do Not Thin. Use it as it is supplied. Keep from freezing. Optimum storage conditions are between 55ºF to 80ºF (13ºC to 26ºC). Do not apply at temperatures less than 40ºF (4ºC) since condensation on the metal substrate (blushing) may occur, which may retard drying time and/or adversely affect the bond strength. All metal surfaces should be clean, dry and free of oil or grease to assure the best possible bond.

Application

CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive may be applied by brush, roller coat, spray and/or duct liner facing machine. The product is easily applied by low-pressure, air assisted spray equipment commonly used throughout the industry, or even by airless spray equipment. If the desired application is by duct liner machine, the adhesive should be applied to the backside of the desired facing at the recommended coverage rate and then laminated to the insulation. No matter how the product is applied, 100% coverage of the metal or foil surface is required in order to obtain the best possible adhesion. Press the insulation firmly into place immediately after application of CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive, or up to ten minutes after application. Average viscosity range: 3,000 – 5,000 cps.

Conventional Air Spray:

Spray Equipment Suggestions
  Binks Devilbiss
Spray Gun Model 2001SS JGA-510
Fluid Nozzle 68SS (0.110“) E
Air Cap 68PB 777
Fluid Pressure Required 25 psi
Atomizing Air 60 psi
Feed Pump 1:1 or 2:1 transfer pump

Many other combinations from these and other manufacturers may also be appropriate.

Airless Spray:
Must be a 3,000 psi sprayer capable of handling tip sizes of 0.019“ – 0.025”. Typical sprayer that meets these requirements would be a Graco Ultra 395 (0.023” max tip) or Graco Ultramax II 495.

Hints for Success

If CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive has been used to laminate jacketings and/or facings to insulation, be sure to store the faced and/or jacketed insulation at temperatures above 40ºF (4ºC) until the adhesive is completely dry to prevent potential delamination. If CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive has been applied by spray and/or duct liner machine, be sure that all fittings are manufactured from either stainless steel or Teflon® to prevent corrosion. Be sure to flush all equipment with water both before and after application of the adhesive. Do not allow the adhesive to dry out in the equipment.
The time the adhesive takes to tack up and dry is dependent upon temperature, humidity and air circulation. Applying CHIL-QUIK™ CP-127 adhesive in a dry atmosphere between 40ºF and 100º F (4ºC and 38ºC) to a dry substrate with ventilation will help maximize production rates.
