Mode of Action

ProBarrier CLR forms a homogeneous protective film on top of the skin. With that it is possible to effectively protect the skin against harsh climatological influences. Concerning formulations with ProBarrier CLR, the consumer’s perception is clearly superior to the effect of barrier and cold creams with conventional ingredients. ProBarrier CLR, therefore, constitutes the perfect solution for cosmetic chemists aiming to develop formulations which achieve an extra protective effect on the skin. This is particularly interesting for formulations intended to be applied on the skin in order to protect it against climatological influences (especially for the face and the hands), but also for formulations applied on, for instance, sensitive skin.

Recommended Uses

ProBarrier CLR is designed for O/W formulations and gels for applications intended to protect the skin against cold temperatures and other harsh climatological influences.

Formulation Guidelines

ProBarrier CLR should be added to the finished formulation at a temperature below 40 °C

Safety & Health

Physiological Safety

Acute oral toxicity

All ingredients of ProBarrier CLR have LD50 values > 2000 mg/kg body weight (rat) and therefore are to be considered harmless as regards their toxicological potential. Hence acute and oral toxicology testing on rats have been dispensed with.

Eye irritation potential

ProBarrier CLR, undiluted, was tested on the chorioallantoic membrane of the hen's egg where it produced a calculated irritation score of 0.02 and therefore could be classified as "not irritant".

Skin compatibility / Human patch test

ProBarrier CLR was tested undiluted on 50 volunteers (among these 24 individuals with normal skin, 7 eczema sufferers, 2 with allergic and 17 individuals with sensitive skin). This test showed neither skin irritant nor sensitizing effects. Thus ProBarrier CLR can be classified as harmless as regards the possibility of skin irritation.
