Nowo Metal Special Primer SB is suitable for ensuring the adhesion of all metal surfaces, especially on rusty, damaged or otherwise difficult substrates. The product is also suitable as an anti-corrosion primer for handling rust spots.
- Applications
For priming steel, galvanized and roughened aluminum surfaces. Also suitable for stainless steel surfaces, PURAL, POLYESTER, ACRYLIC and PVC coated steel sheets.
The product is recommended as Nowo Metal Roof Top WB and Nowo Metal Roof Top 2K primer.

- Pretreatment
Unpainted surfaces:
Unpainted surfaces / new galvanized sheet metal roofs are recommended to be painted after at least one winter and at least 12 months. The best adhesion is obtained on a galvanized surface that is already dimmed in weather conditions, mechanically or chemically roughened. Clean the surface with a pressure washer and Nowo Metal Roof Cleaner as instructed. Rinse the cleaned surface thoroughly with water and allow to dry well. Use suitable methods to remove any rust and white rust on the surface to St2 and paint with Special Primer.
Painted surfaces:
Wash the surfaces using Nowo Metal Roof Cleaner as instructed, rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry well. Remove loose paint and any rust using cleaning methods suitable for St2. If there is a lot of paint flaking, it is a sign that the old paint has poor adhesion throughout. In this case, the old loose paint is removed as well as possible (eg by Torbo cleaning, sandblasting or another cleaning method).
Industrially painted surfaces: (PVC, Plastisol, Pural)
Determine the type, condition and adhesion of the original coating by a cross-cut or lattice test according to SFS-EN ISO 16276-2 (must comply with at least class 2). Test the suitability of the Special Primer for the coating by applying it to a small area max. 100 ym layer thickness and allow to dry. If the paint has a detrimental effect on the coating below (boils or softens the substrate), replace Nowo Metal Special Primer with WB. Wash the surfaces using Nowo Metal Roof Cleaner as instructed, rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry well. Remove loose paint and any rust using cleaning methods suitable for St2. If the flaking of the coating is abundant, it is a sign that the adhesion of the old coating is poor throughout. The old coating is then removed as carefully as possible (eg by Torbo cleaning, sandblasting or other cleaning methods). Also check with the coating manufacturer for serviceability and the need for a separate primer from the importer.
Painting on a platform
Mix Nowo Special Primer thoroughly before use. Apply the paint with a brush, roller or spray as required and as needed. When applying, pay attention to the layer thickness. Avoid painting above the recommended layer thickness of 100 μm (25μ dry film). Use a paint scale comb to monitor the thickness of the paint film. Too thick a film will reduce adhesion between layers. Special Primer should be painted over with Nowo Metal tin roof paint or coating within 4 days of painting.
Drying
Nowo Special Primer is a fast-drying primer under normal (+20 ° C and below 80% humidity) conditions and can be painted on after about 30-60 minutes. Note that the relative humidity, temperature, and wind speed of the air have a significant effect on the drying rate.
Cleaning of tools
Wash the instruments immediately with Nowo Thinner thinner.

Do not allow to enter drains, water courses or soil. Liquid paint waste is delivered to a hazardous waste collection point. Empty and dry packaging should be taken for recycling or mixed waste.

The surface to be painted must be dry and warmer than the surrounding air. During the application and drying period the temperature of the ambient air, the surface to be coated and
the paint shall be above + 5°C and the relative humidity of the air below 80%. The relative humidity, temperature, and wind speed of the air have a significant effect on the drying rate.
The surface temperature must not exceed + 40°C, so that the solvent does not evaporate too quickly, pores form on the paint surface, adhesion decreases, bubbles appear, etc.
Schedule the painting work so that the paint film has time to dry before any evening dew settles.
