Compass Remediation Chemicals Potassium Permanganate is a chemical oxidant used in soil and groundwater remediation to treat contaminants such as chlorinated solvents (TCE, PCE, etc.). The active oxidant is the permanganate anion (MnO₄-), which is a strong oxidant which can persist and react with COCs several months after injections are complete. In Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) using potassium permanganate is a proven and cost-effective treatment when used to treat DNAPL source zones or zones of high residual contamination.
