The peripartum is a critical period for our high-producing cows, as their nutritional needs increase considerably at the time of calving to begin milk production, which reaches its maximum in a few weeks.
Due to this drastic change, cows accumulate in this period the vast majority of problems of metabolic and infectious origin due to immunosuppression.
Subclinical hypocalcaemia after calving occurs in approximately 80% of multiparous cows in Spain, resulting in a decrease in milk production of approximately 2 liters and an increase in metabolic diseases such as displacement of the abomasum, ketosis, retained placenta and metritis. at up to 3.7, 3.5, 3.4, and 4.3 respectively.
