Pergopak® organic matting agents and carriers are specialty products for the coatings, paint and agricultural industries. They deliver a good surface finish and soft feel effect that cannot be achieved with standard matting agents like silicas or waxes. For over 20 years, formulators have relied on Pergopak® to improve the rheology and performance of their coatings. In addition, Pergopak® is used as a carrier in the agricultural industry.

Organic Matting and Effect Agents for the Coating and Ink Industries

Pergopak® matting agents provide high matting efficiency for paints and varnishes. Thanks to their chemical nature and structure, Pergopak® matting and effect agents can be used alone or in combination with other matting agents in a variety of coating formulations. The result: surface properties and visual and physical effects that standard matting agents like silicas or waxes simply cannot deliver.

The four Pergopak® matting and effect agent grades provide a high performance balance of matting, clarity, rheology and abrasion resistance along with a pleasant feel. As thermoset polymers, they provide advantages in the overall resistance of the coating due to their hardness and non-melting properties. Pergopak® grades can be used in air-dry, baking and two component systems, including water-based, solvent-based and UV curing systems.

Brand Highlights

Pergopak® flatting and matting agents are organic thermoset polymethyl urea resins (PMU) offering significantly different performance advantages and benefits versus typical silica and polypropylene type flatting agents. They help formulators of industrial coatings, inks and overprint varnishes achieve a higher-performing balance of low gloss, rheology, abrasion resistance, coin-marking, water resistance, chemical resistance, heat resistance and soft feel.

A voluminous powder of low bulk density, Pergopak® has an excellent degree of whiteness resulting from an almost 100% reflection over the entire ultraviolet and visible wavelength range. Primary particles, with an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 0.15 μm, form nearly spherical agglomerates of 3 to 9 μm. These agglomerates have a relatively high specific surface area and pore volume. Because of this special structure, Pergopak® products achieve distinguished matting effects compared with other nucleating agents for polypropylene.

Key Benefits
  • Ability to achieve flat gloss without significant viscosity increase.
  • Imparts a soft feel to the coating.
  • Matting efficiency.
  • Excellent weathering and water resistance.
