DL® Activated Charcoal

1 of 33 products in this brand
DL® Activated CHARCOAL is derived from hardwood and is NSF approved. Activated Charcoal is also known as activated carbon. The charcoal is “activated” because it is produced to have a very fine particle size, yet is a porous material which increases the overall surface area adsorptive capacity of the charcoal. Its high adsorptive characteristics make it suitable for many applications. Activated Charcoal works by entrapping organic chemicals and preventing their absorption. One of the long standing functions of activated charcoal is for oral ingestion. In emergency situations, it has been commonly used as an anti-poison remedy to absorb toxins in the digestive system after certain types of poisonings. Another application that has been gaining in popularity, is its use to remove teeth stains. The way activated charcoal works, also helps to bind plaque making it an effective, natural way to whiten teeth. Its use as both a cleaner and whitener goes back for centuries. Activated Charcoal does not bind well to certain chemicals including: alcohols, glycols, strong acids and bases, metals and most inorganic minerals such as iron, lead, sodium, iodine, fluorine and boric acid as well as hydrocarbons such as petroleum distillates and plant hydrocarbons such as pine oil.
