    Technical Details & Test Data

    Processing

Excelene 5005 compound is engineered to be processed on conventional extrusion equipment. Use of a L/D 18:1 to 24:1 extruder with a single flighted, general purpose, tapered screw with a compression ratio (CR) of 2.0 to 3.0:1 for proper homogenization and fluxing of Excelene 5005. The recommendations are only guidelines to obtain optimal output and properties, and modifications may need to be made based upon equipment. The compound supplied is in the cleanest state and is of the highest quality; however, the use of a breaker plate with a screen pack of approximately 20/40 mesh is recommended for optimal rheological flow and steady back pressure.

Pre-drying of the compound is not necessary, provided that the compound has been stored unopened in a cool, dry area.

The following conditions are given as a guide for processing:
    Temperature Profile:
A standard ramp profile starting with 220F (104C) in the feed zone ramping to 240°F (115.5°C) on the head and die.

    Storage & Handling

    Storage

A high level of care in storage to minimize exposure to moisture is recommended to ensure that there is no degradation of the PEMC-1. Once opened, PEMC-1 should be consumed immediately to avoid any premature gelling due to environmental moisture.

    Handling
    • To ensure health and safety, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available and should be consulted prior to use.
