Features & Benefits

Bio-Chel Ca in the Root Zone

In the rhizosphere, or root zone of a plant, complex interactions are constantly occurring between plant roots and soil microbes. The microbes live in the soil and gain needed energy sources from plants while aiding in nutrient transfer to plants and creating an environment more conducive to good root growth. The addition of Bio-Chel Ca to a standard fertilizer program increases the micro-organism population of six different functional groups. These groups include the benefi cial bacteria (Bacillus Subtilis) The above pictures illustrate the level of bacteria on roots under the support of Bio-Chel Ca.

Benefits

When used in irrigation systems Bio-Chel Ca may be used to bridge the calcium gap associated with nitrogen in fruit growing. It is highly soluble and available so works well within a two tank feed system As foliar calcium Bio-Chel Ca will provide a calcium source which will penetrate leaves due to the lignin present and the calcium formate provides a nitrate and chloride free source which is very effective and safe on leaf. The level of soluble lignin in Bio-Chel Ca allows the product to bind plant growth promoting rhizobacteria to roots. This binding promotes the auxin response for enhanced growth. The natural chelating effects of lignin will with continued use transfer a level of chelation to nutrients present in the rootzone creating greater availability to the growing crop and reduce antagonistic relationships between nutrients. The level of natural sugars and carbon present in Bio-Chel Ca aid microbial activity in rootzones and trials have proven that when used in conjunction with Serenade, Bio-Chel Ca will allow more rapid establishment of colonization leading to greater effi cacy. This can also be transferred to microbial packages provided by compost tea applications.

Protects against calcium related disorders. Rapidly lifts calcium to quickly firm fruit and vegetable crops. Bio-Chel Ca will support cell structure, to aid the crop against the ingress of microbial and fungal pathogens. Eliminates the customary leaf burn associated with high Ca foliar fertilizers. Improves the shelf life of the fruits and vegetables. Provides optimal calcium support through period of peak demand.

Use

For use in all irrigation types and water sources to replace Calcium Nitrate and Calcium Chloride. For use as a foliar calcium that is highly available and has a low scorch potential. As a source of calcium for hydroponic substrates such as Coir and Rockwool for use in crops such as tomato, pepper, cucumber and strawberry. For use in establishing roots in newly planted crops and the regeneration of roots throughout the season. For use as a chelating agent for rootzone available nutrients. For use in conjunction with Bacillus Subtilis or with compost tea’s to increase colonization.

Bio-Chel is intended for both foliar use and application via irrigation. Application rates will vary depending upon crop (see reverse). For foliar applications use sufficient water to ensure thorough coverage. Recommended rate is 200-1000 liters per Ha depending on crop requirement and spray mix. Bio-Chel is very safe on leaf however if mixed with other products, avoid applications in full sun and when temperatures exceed 26o C.

Increased yields

Trials across many crops illustrate that Bio-Chel Ca is not only a source of calcium but will, due to the benefi ts listed, aid crop yield when used regularly.

Crop Timings and Application Rates
  No of applications
  Liquid Powder
Drip irrigations for substrate grown crops Use 10-20 liters/ha per week from planting through to end of harvest for fruiting and fl owering crops and every 2-3 weeks for vegetable crops with a higher calcium demand. Apply at normal injection rates. Bio-Chel Ca levels can be adjusted to suit individual crop requirements. Use 5-10 kgs/ha per week from planting through to end of harvest for fruiting and fl owering crops and every 2-3 weeks for vegetable crops with a higher calcium demand. Apply at normal injection rates. Bio-Chel Ca levels can be adjusted to suit individual crop requirements.
Soil application Use 20 liters/ha as a base dressing at planting to promote nutrient absorption and reapply during periods of calcium requirement apply in 400-800 liters of water. Use 10-20 kgs/ha as a base dressing at planting to promote nutrient absorption and reapply during periods of calcium requirement apply in 400-800 liters of water.
Foliar application Apply at 2-8 liters/ha as a source of soluble calcium. Use as required. Apply in 400-600 liters/ha for optimum results Apply at 2-5 kgs/ha as a source of soluble calcium. Use as required. Apply in 400-600 liters/ha for optimum results

The foliar application rate of water mixed with Bio-Chel Ca should ideally be 400-600L/ ha, however for field crops applications of 200L/ha are viable. Use only when necessary and always take the indications of crop and soil/tissue analyzes into consideration. Do not exceed recommended application amounts. For optimal foliar results apply to dry leaves.

Crop Application and Timing
Top Fruit To prevent bitter pit, and to support healthy growth and high quality apply Bio-Chel Ca regularly from pink bud to harvest at 2.0- 4.0L/Ha at 14 day intervals. For optimal results ensure application through the bloom period until 6 week post petal fall. Post-harvest apply 2 applications of Bio-Chel Ca to support bud set and growth for following season.
Stone Fruit To improve the calcium supply and for more stable and stronger fruit apply Bio-Chel Ca regularly from early bud break until harvest at 2.0- 4.0L/Ha at 14 day intervals. To extend shelf life Bio-Chel Ca may be added to water in cherry cooling tanks at harvest. Post-harvest apply 2 applications of Bio-Chel Ca to support bud set and growth for following season.
Berry Fruit For increased firmness and stable, larger berries, apply 2.0-3.0 liters of Bio-Chel Ca/ Ha. Apply from early growth until end of harvest, depending on weather conditions every 7 - 14 days. If applied via irrigation replace or supplement 10-15% of calcium supply with Bio-Chel Ca and mix into calcium tank and apply as per normal crop requirement.
Grapes For stronger grape skin and to optimize quality and shelf life apply 4 - 8 applications of 3.0 liters of Bio-Chel Ca/Ha increasing to 4.0 liters for one or two treatments on fully developed inflorescences. Repeat at 10-14 days intervals from early growth through to end of harvest. Post-harvest apply 2-3 applications of Bio-Chel Ca to support bud set and growth for following season.
Vegetable Crops To reduce the risk of calcium disorders or to improve quality and shelf/storage life, apply 3.0-4.0 liters of Bio-Chel Ca /Ha at 14 days intervals and repeat as necessary. 3-5 applications are recommended during periods of peak demand.
Fruiting Vegetables To reduce the risk of blossom end rot and to increase fruit firmness and quality apply 3.0 liters Bio-Chel Ca /Ha from start of flowering until end of harvest. Apply as required at 7-14 day intervals. If applied via irrigation replace or supplement 10-15% of calcium supply with BioChel Ca and mix into calcium tank and apply as per normal crop requirement.
Leafy Salad Vegetables To reduce tip burn and leaf margin necrosis apply 3 to 4 treatments each at 2.0-3.0 liters of Bio-Chel-Ca/Ha from planting to harvest. To prevent internal browning use 2.0 liters Bio-Chel-Ca/Ha from the start of head formation to harvest. Apply at 7 day intervals.
