The Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer is a solvent-based lacquer to be used as a topcoat. This top coat can be used with Excel-Coat K/D & K/D II decorative cementitious systems.
- Job Conditions
Before any work is started, the applicator shall thoroughly examine all surfaces for any deficiencies. Should any deficiencies exist, the Architect, Owner or General Contractor shall be notified in writing and any corrections necessary shall be made.
Cold or inclement weather will affect the cure time of all Excel-Coat products. Do not install over wet substrate, in the rain or if the threat of rain exists within 24 hours.- Installation
Preparation:
1. Curing of concrete shall be by means of water cure or dissipating compounds. Curing compounds shall be approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International
2. Concrete shall be cured a minimum of 28 days prior to installation of the Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer unless approved by an authorized representative of Excellent Coatings International.
3. Concrete finish shall be a power metal float followed by
a light steel trowel and fine-medium hair broom finish,
or equivalent.
4. Concrete surfaces shall be free of excessive roughness, voids, protrusions or exposed aggregate.
5. All tooled joints and control joints shall be caulked with a sealant approved by Excellent Coatings International. Moving structural cracks should be treated with an epoxy crack repair material. To top coat existing systems, the system must be thoroughly cleaned (power washing with a detergent like TSP is acceptable) and primed.
6. All decks shall be properly sloped to freely drain and eliminate the ponding of water. All expansion joints shall be treated as specified in the drawings and in strict accordance with Excellent Coatings International's written instructions. Excellent Coatings International shall be consulted for specific design requirements.- Applications
For Existing systems:
1. Thoroughly clean surface by means of power washing prior to application of the top coat coat. Allow surface to dry completely.
2. Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer
For New Excel-Coat Systems: (i.e., K/D & K/D II Systems or Two-tone texture systems)
1. Ensure that surface is clean and dry before sealing.
2. Apply two thin coats of Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer by roller or airless sprayer at the rate of 250 square feet per gallon per coat for a net yield of 125 square feet per gallon total coverage. Allow top coat to dry approximately 8 hours. Allow to cure 24 hours before heavy foot traffic is permitted and an additional 72 hours before heavy objects are placed on the surface.Sealer by roller or airless sprayer at the rate of 250 square feet per gallon per coat, for a net yield of 125 square feet per gallon total coverage. - Maintenance
Cleaning can be accomplished by scrubbing with normal detergent soap and water. Heavy stains may require TSP solution and brushing with a stiff broom. Excel-Coat Maintenance Cleaner is also an effective cleaning material and may be used in conjunction with power washing. Follow product instructions.
- Guarantee / Warranty
Excellent Coatings International warrants Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer to be free of defects and manufactured to meet published physical properties for a period of one year following the date of shipment, provided that the product has been applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. Under this warranty, Excellent Coatings International will provide, at no charge, product in containers to replace any product proved to be defective in applications recommended by us as suitable for this product. All claims concerning the products' defects must be made within twelve months of shipment and within thirty days of discovery. Absence of such claims in writing during this period will constitute a waiver of all claims with respect to such product. THIS WARRANTY IS MADE IN LIEU OF ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANT OF MERCHANTABILITY OF FITNESS FOR A SPECIFIC PURPOSE.

Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer contains flammable solvents. Store Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer in a cool, dry area away from heat, sparks and open flame. It will be necessary to stir Excel-Coat Acrylic Lacquer Sealer before using. Partial containers can be resealed. Should a top skin develop on the remaining contents of a container, the physical properties and effectiveness of the contents will not be impaired. Clean mixing and application tools with a solvent based cleaner like xylene. Dispose of empty containers properly according to current Local, State and Federal regulations.
