Manchem® Zircoaluminates feature an inorganic metal component and an organic component. The bi-functional nature enables them to “bridge” or couple two or more species through irreversible chemical interactions. Common applications which are well suited for this adhesion technology are Coatings, Inks, Rubber and Adhesives.

Manalox™ 300 is a bis alkoxylated aluminum chelate complex solution in ink oil solvent with a very wide effective temperature range (100 - 180 °C). Manalox 300 can be added to most varnishes at cooking temperatures without the need for much, if any, pre-dilution. Manalox 300 does not produce any byproduct alcohols during the gelling reaction.

Manalox™ 410 can be simply diluted with solvent to provide a clear waterproofing penetrating sealant which exceeds Industry Standard ASTM D-4446 or it can be further enhanced with resin, waxes and pigments allowing the formulator much flexibility to obtain target performance criteria. Manalox 410 is a concentrated liquid solution of poly-oxoaluminum stearate which comes supplied in a miscible carrier solvent. The poly-oxo form of aluminum stearate is readily soluble in organic liquids which provides for ease of manufacture as well as final product consistency and ease of application. Being a reactive aluminum derivative, this poly-oxo aluminum compound is capable of reacting with carboxylic acid groups, hydroxyl groups and with water. Since the reaction with water produces the dihydroxyaluminum stearate, the chemical can be thought of as ‘anhydrous aluminum stearate’. The fully reacted aluminum stearate would be difficult to dissolve in solvents because of the tendency of all fatty aluminum salts (or aluminum soaps, as they are called) to gel organic solvents. The poly-oxo form, however, is readily soluble in organic liquids which allows for it to soak deep into the pores of the wood with the carrier solvent. Then when the solvent evaporates, this material chemically reacts with the small amount of moisture found in the wood and converts to the aluminum stearate forming a hydrophobic barrier within the pores. This product will not change the look or color of the wood nor leave behind a slippery surface film. Although the treatment goes deep into the pores of the wood and will prevent water from entering the pores, it does not block moisture vapor from coming through.

Manalox™ 130 should be used in a dilute form and should be introduced into the varnish at as low a temperature as is practical. Manalox 130 produces isopropyl alcohol as a byproduct of the gelling reaction.

Manalox™ 360 is a solvent-free source of an active aluminum gellant that is perfect for UV cured inks and coatings. However, a more stable, low skinning condition can be achieved by making a 50-75% solution in ink oil solvent prior to use and/or storage. Solutions can be added to the varnish at temperatures of 150°-180°. Manalox produces isopropyl alcohol as a byproduct of the gelling reaction.

Manalox™ 230 reacts quite rapidly and gels without the grainy structures often encountered at higher temperatures.Manalox 230 provides ideal gelling reaction if you require short cycle times or are limited by lower temperature capabilities. Manalox 230 does not produce any volatile byproduct alcohols during the gelling reaction.

Manalox™ 318 is an oxoaluminum acylate with an aromatic character designed to provide both high viscosity and high yield stress value properties in lithographic printing ink vehicles. It develops the viscosity within about 30 – 45 minutes at 170-175 °C, but does not react as quickly in the initial stages as does OAO, and therefore it has less of a tendency to produce “seeds” in the varnish. The level of use varies according to the particular varnish formula and type of gell structure desired, but generally falls between 1.0 and 2.5%. Manalox 318 should be evaluated as potential replacement for either Arrow Gell or OAO. One of the expected advantages of replacing OAO with Manalox 318 would be lower water pickup properties in the subsequent ink.

Manalox™ 240 has controlled reactivity, this solution of polymeric oxoaluminum octoate in high-boiling ink oil solvent can be added to most hot varnishes without the necessity of further dilution. This highly stable product causes the gelling reaction to go more slowly for example, at temperatures of 160-180 °C, complete gelling will take between 30-60 minutes. Manalox 240 does not produce any volatile byproduct alcohols during the gelling reaction.

Manalox™ 310 is proprietary aluminum chelate complex has been formulated as a gelling agent for lithographic printing ink vehicles, and is provided as a convenient solution in high-boiling ink oil solvent. Extremely stable under high temperature conditions, Manalox 310 is anideal gellant for varnishes cooked at temperatures ranging from 160 – 200°C. Capable of achieving very high viscosity at low aluminum content, Manalox 310 has a slow rate of reactivity that permits addition to many varnishes at high temperatures. Manalox 310 does not produce any byproduct alcohols during the gelling reaction.
