Manchem® Zircoaluminates

1 of 1 products in this brand
Manchem® Zircoaluminates feature an inorganic metal component and an organic component. The bi-functional nature enables them to “bridge” or couple two or more species through irreversible chemical interactions. Common applications which are well suited for this adhesion technology are Coatings, Inks, Rubber and Adhesives.

Functions: Adhesion Promoter, Coupling Agent

Chemical Family: Aluminum Compounds, Aluminum Salts, Organometallics

End Uses: Primer, Solventborne Adhesive, Solventborne Coating, Solventborne Ink, Waterborne Adhesive, Waterborne Coating, Waterborne Ink

MANCHEM ADHESION PROMOTERS PROVED THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS
    • Stable in humid environments
    • Soluble and stable in aqueous products
    • Will not polymerize like silanes
    • Low usage levels of 0.03-1.0% based on resin solids
    • Can be used in both water and solvent based products
    • Non-flammable, non-corrosive; non-toxic metals
    MANCHEM® ZIRCOALUMINATE PROCESSING
    • Typical usage levels for Manchem Zircoaluminates are 0.3 – 1.0% based on resin solids. Actual concentration for optimum performance can vary with systems
    • For solvent systems and water-borne coatings at a pH < 5.0, it is preferred to add the zircoaluminates to grind portion under high shear
    • For water-borne systems with pH > 7.0 use Manchem 376 and 441. The traditional Manchem Zircoaluminates will undergo self crosslinking at elevated pH and become inactive
    • Manchem Zircoaluminates are used as post-add adhesion promoters in many systems including formulated paints and inks. The key to optimum performance is uniform dispersion of the zircoaluminates in the formulation
    • Manchem Zircoaluminates can be tailored to meet customer’s needs for resin and solvent systems

    How Do They Work?

The highly metallic nature of zircoaluminates makes them uniquely reactive with many surfaces. The inorganic functional groups chemically interact with the substrate while the organofunctional groups react with the resin producing a complex network of bridging bonds.

Common applications which are well suited for this adhesion technology are coatings, inks, rubber and adhesives.
