Applications & Uses

Application Area
Limitations

Use only on surfaces maintained at a temperature of 15°C (60°F) to 35°C (95°F) during application and while curing. Do not use in areas subject to excessive heat. Cured 100 Flex Epoxy Mortar will resist temperatures up to 100°C (212°F). For exterior applications, consult Flextile Technical Service. Not recommended for use over particleboard, chipboard, asbestos cement board, or similar unstable materials.

Installation

Preparatory Work: Surfaces must be sound, even, fully cured and free of grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, paint or other foreign matter. Surfaces must be true to a tolerance of ±3 mm (1/8 ") in 2.4 meters (8 ft.) for walls and 6mm (1/4") in 3 meters (10 ft.) for fl oors. Concrete surfaces should have a wood fl oat or steel trowel with broom fi nish. Plywood fl oors should be designed for maximum defl ection of L/360 of span. This normally requires an overlay of 16 mm (5/8") exterior grade plywood over 25 mm (1") nominal boards or 16 mm (5/8") plywood when on joists 40 cm (16") O.C. Fasten overlay with screw type nails and glue where possible. Leave a 3 mm-6 mm (1/8"-1/4") gap between sheets of overlay and next to all vertical surfaces to allow for expansion. Refer to current editions of TTMAC 09 30 00 Tile Installation Manual, or TCNA Handbook For Ceramic Tile Installation for information regarding placement of expansion or control joints, or for further substrate acceptability information.

Application: Store Flex-Epoxy 100 at 20°C (68°F) for 12 hours prior to use. If the Flex-Epoxy is stiff or appears partially crystallized, heat unopened unit in hot tap water for approximately 20 minutes, and then let material return to room temperature prior to use. Mix Flex-Epoxy 100 by pouring all of Part B into Part A container. Mix uses a slow speed mixer. Scrape bottom and sides of container to ensure Part B is thoroughly blended into all of Part A. For setting large format or heavier tiles, add clean silica sand (provided) to thicken as desired. Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles. Avoid skin contact. Spread a thin layer of Flex-Epoxy 100 with the fl at side of the trowel to wet out the substrate; then reapply suffi cient material to give 100% contact with the back of the tile. Set tiles immediately with a slight twisting motion and beat in to establish full contact. While setting material is fresh, align tile and clean any smudges from the face of the tile with a clean sponge or towel and water. Do not grout or permit traffi c on tiled surface for at least 24 hours, and preferably 48 hours.

Curing and Grouting

Do not allow any traffic on grouted floor for at least 24 hours. Floor may receive light foot traffic after 24 hours, but should be protected from general traffic and routine cleaning operations for at least 72 hours. Grout using 1600 Ultra Performance Grout or Flextile Polymer Modifi ed Grout or Flextile FlexEpoxy100 100% Solids Epoxy Grout.
