Procedure to make transparent bathing bar from Galaxy SN 960 SF
  1. Use SS 304 / 316 jacketed reactor with anchor / paddle / gate type stirrer (low rpm); all fittings, gauges should be of stainless steel. Do not use brass or aluminium
  2. The reactor to be cleaned thoroughly with steam. It should be odourless before melting Galaxy SN 960 SF
  3. Ideally batch size can be 70 - 80% of the reactor capacity. Use low pressure steam / hot water (80 - 85°C) for melting
  4. Initially melt sufficient amount (approx. 50%) of Galaxy SN 960 SF flakes for the stirrer to operate
  5. Then by maintaining temperature at 70 - 75°C keep adding remaining quantity of flakes
  6. Excessive heating / higher temperature may cause colour and water loss, resulting in translucent or opaque product
  7. Moisture content in the final bathing bar shall be at 25 to 27%. Monitor the same and make up, if required before putting the molten mass into the moulds
  8. Make 2 to 4 % solution of the selected colour in water. In case of oil soluble colours, make colour solution in perfume / propylene glycol. Generally, 10 - 20 ppm of colour gives desired shade. Mix the mass uniformly
  9. Maintain reactor temperature at 70 - 75°C. Start addition of perfume. Since colour of perfume can affect transparency; choose light coloured perfume
  10. Stop heating and mixing/stirring and keep the molten mass as is for 4 - 5 minutes to remove air bubbles/foam. If foam does not vanish off, try to scrap out and remove (If possible)
  11. Pour the material in suitable moulds
  12. Start cooling the mould system with water. Cooling with chilled water (4 - 5°C) enhances transparency
  13. The product would start solidifying at 58 - 62°C. Finish of the bar would depend on quality of the moulds
  14. Once cooled, bar can be stamped, which improves transparency. In manual stamping, smearing the die with a drop of glycerin further enhances transparency
  15. Ensure that changeover cleaning of the reactor is perfect
  16. Transparent bar is ready
