Applications & Uses
- Markets
- Application
- Leo-Zeo Turf is best mixed to sand at a 90/10 ratio (90% Sand and 10% Leo-Zeo Turf by volume).
- However, Leo-Zeo Turf can be mixed with all soil types where soil quality needs to be improved.
- The following are some suggested ways to use Leo-Zeo Turf:
- For areas of new construction, mix 10% Leo-Zeo Turf with sand or soil prior to seeding.
- Seed as normal.
- For existing turf, mix Leo-Zeo Turf with top dressing sand at a minimum of 10% and apply top dressing as normal both after aeration and for normal, routine top dressing operations.
- If using Drill and Fill or similar, mix Leo-Zeo Turf with dry sand using a minimum of 10% Leo-Zeo Turf.
- Increase this up to 50% if desired.
- Alternatively apply Leo-Zeo Turf liberally to existing turf just prior to topdressing at a rate of 100-200g per sqm (100-200kg per 1000 sqm).
- Please note that Leo-Zeo Turf must be applied in dry conditions

Technical Details & Test Data
- Technical Data
What is Zeolite?
- Zeolites are hydrated alumino-silicate minerals containing aluminum, silicon and oxygen in their framework.
- They form as a result of a chemical reaction between volcanic lava and saline water.
- High cation exchange capacity as well as water retention and absorption abilities.
- Ensures healthier growth, accelerates root development.
- Enhances resistance against root and fungus diseases; reduces stress.
- Captures the valuable nutrients in the soil and enables a more effective use by the turf.
What is Leonardite?
- Leonardite is an oxidated form of lignite carp formed after 70 million years of humification.
- It has high cation exchange capacity.
- Humic acids from leonardite have long-lasting action.
- Regulates and improves soil structure.
- Ensures better aeration of soil.
- Increases organic content of sandy soils.
- Enhances root development.
- Improves water holding ability of soil, thereby preserves soil moisture.
- Increases the activity of the beneficial microorganisms in the soil.
- Rootzone Amendment Product Research
Scope and Objective:
- European Turfgrass Laboratories were employed to undertake a review of the main rootzone amendments on the market, including peat, calcined clay, Clino Turf and Leo-Zeo Turf.
- These amendments were compared against each other and a control with no amendment from data produced to arrive at conclusions as to the most effective amendment and technical considerations for their use.
- All amendments were added to the sand at 9 : 1 (sand : amendment) ratio to allow for better comparison.
Measurement of Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC):
Result:
Leo-Zeo Turf significantly increases CEC before and after leaching of water.
* 120 Minutes leaching was equivalent of 12 months rainfall.
Measurement of Nutrient Retention:
Result:
Leo-Zeo Turf demonstrated a significantly higher nutrient retentive capacity.
Main Findings:
- Leo-Zeo Turf increased organic matter (OM) and overall nutrient retention significantly compared against other amendments.
- Leo-Zeo Turf retained significantly higher key nutrients than other amendments, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium.
- Leo-Zeo Turf increased water retention capacity and CEC values, while optimizing infiltration and percolation rates, and helped sand meet USGA recommendations.
