Application Instructions

For best results, surface and air temperature should be above 50°F and below 90°F. Temperature should not fall below 40°F for 24 hours following application. Do not apply if rain is expected within 12 hours of application. Stir thoroughly before and during application. DO NOT THIN.

  • First Coat: Apply first coat liberally and evenly, working in one direction. DO NOT OVERAPPLY. Remove excess material by back-rolling. Allow to dry at least 4 hours before applying second coat.
  • Additional Coats: 2-3 coats may be necessary to ensure uniformity, depending on the porosity of the surface. For best coverage, apply second coat perpendicular to the first coat. One coat is usually sufficient when applied over H&C® ColorTop® Solvent-Based Solid Color Concrete Sealer.

Important : Each additional coat will increase the level of gloss/shine of the surface. To maintain a Natural Look, a maximum of two coats is recommended.

Dry Times, if applying over Decorative Coatings: H&C INFUSION Semi-Transparent Decorative Stain: 4 - 6 hours H&C INFUSION Reactive Acid Stain: 24 hours H&C INFUSION Acetone Dye Stain: 1 hour (Interior only)

Note: Pigment residue left from decorative stains can prevent adequate adhesion of the sealer. Remove this residue using a damp mop or lint-free cloth.

Maintenance

Clean light to moderately soiled surfaces with a 50/50 solution of H&C® ConcreteReady® Cleaner Degreaser and water. Use the cleaner at full strength for heavy soiling, such as oil and grease stains.

Slip Resistance

SLIP RESISTANCESome surfaces may require a slip/skid-resistant additive for safety. Surfaces may be slippery when wet and proper preventative precautions are recommended. To increase slip/ skid resistance, add H&C® SharkGrip® Slip Resistant Additive to the coating when applying. See product data page for detailed instructions. The addition of anti-slip/skid additives will not eliminate the possibility or risk of slipping/skidding or falling.

Cleanup

Clean tools with xylene following manufacturer’s safety instructions. Use waterless hand cleaner to remove dried material from skin.

Jobsite Test Section

Due to the wide variety of substrates, preparation methods, application methods and environments, it is important to create a test sample.

Limitations

Do not use on wood surfaces or surfaces sensitive to solvent attack, such as asphalt. If used indoors, thoroughly ventilate the space during and after application.

Surface Preparation

  • Newly poured concrete must be at least 28 days old. Newly installed pavers should weather a minimum of 60 days; excess joint sand should be swept off the surface prior to sealer application. All concrete must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, paint, sealers, etc. A high-pressure water wash is recommended. To spot clean, use H&C® ConcreteReady® Cleaner Degreaser, following label instructions. If mold, mildew or fungus are present, kill and remove with a solution of one cup household bleach to one gallon of water. Wear protective eyewear, waterproof gloves and protective clothing. Quickly wash off any of the mixture that comes in contact with your skin. Do not add detergents or ammonia to the bleach/ water solution. Surface should have the feel of 120-grit sandpaper at minimum, and readily absorb water. To test absorption, spray various sections of the surface to be sealed with water. If the water does not absorb rapidly, concrete must be etched with H&C® ConcreteReady® Etching Solution, following label directions. If the surface does not feel like 120-grit sandpaper following the first application, a second etching is required. (NOTE: Porous vertical surfaces, such as standard CMU, split- faced block, and exposed aggregate, generally do not require etching.) Prepared concrete must have a pH level between 6 and 10. Allow 24 hours to dry before sealing.
  • Previously Stained Concrete: Make sure all previously painted or stained surfaces are in sound condition. Scrape and sand all loose material prior to the application. To ensure adequate adhesion of the sealer, scuff sand all remaining stain or paint.* Reapplication of the stain or coating may be necessary to create an even, uniform appearance. To remove light soil from the surface, use H&C® ConcreteReady® Cleaner Degreaser mixed to a 50/50 ratio with water. To remove heavy oil and grease stains, use the cleaner full strength.
  • Freshly Placed Concrete: H&C® ClariShield® Solvent-Based Natural Look Clear Concrete Sealer complies with ASTM C309 standard specification for liquid membrane-forming compounds for curing concrete. When using on freshly placed concrete, wait 72 hours before sealing.

*WARNING: Removal of old paint by sanding, scraping or other means may generate dust or fumes that contain lead. To avoid exposure to lead dust, wear proper protective equipment, such as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and follow proper containment and cleanup procedures. For more information, call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in U.S.) or contact your local health authority.

Repair: Use H&C® ConcreteReady® Quick Patch and Repair, following label directions, to fill low spots and spalled concrete. Note: Patching compounds will generally be visible through clear coatings.
