Defect Definitions :

  1. Broken: Bean exhibit mechanical damage where a significant part of the beans is smashed or missing; also includes bean pieces without skin or may have sprouts.
  2. Skin Variety Defect: Separated skin with no inner bean material.
  3. Wrinkles: Wrinkled beans shall be sound beans that have deeply wrinkled seed coats and/or are badly warped or misshapen.
  4. Blemishes: Includes discolored beans and contrasting classes.
  5. Extraneous Vegetable Material” (E.V.M): Vegetable material common to the beans plant or other plants that is harmless upon eating and includes, but is not limited to, peas, lentils, and corn.


Tactile Evaluation Definitions:

  1. Hard Beans: Beans that do not exude inner material when compressed.
  2. Firm Beans: Bean that exude inner material when firmly compressed but have firmer than normal center.
  3. Mushy Beans: Beans that are excessively soft when compressed.

Freezing

Rehydrated beans are frozen promptly after cooking using an IQF tunnel, 10-minute minimum freeze time

Quality Assurance
  • Turatti Wash System : All of our products are optically sorted to remvoe defects and pass through a Turatti wash system to ensure our customer beans are of the highest quality.
  • Triple Clean/Wash : We only use beans from approved suppliers that are triple cleaned/washed, meaning they have passed through 3 processes to remove foreign material prior to arrival in Romulus, MI. Internally, we utilize an Olney destoner specifically designed to remove foreign materials from hydrated beans.
  • Continuous Training : Hanline Frozen Foods developed, implemented, and maintains a strong food safety culture within the organization because we believe it is paramount to producing safe food. Part of this culture includes training all employees on the importance of food safety, management being committed to addressing all food safety issues, and management providing all resources necessary to ensure food safety is the top priority.
