- Surface Preparation
Helmibond 6502 Wall Base Adhesive should only be applied to structurally sound surfaces, such as plaster, dry wall, plywood, paneling, and fully cured masonry surfaces. Surface must be clean, dry, and free from any dust, wax, grease, loose paint or plaster, or any residual adhesive, etc. that may prevent a proper bond. Plaster, cement, or similar surfaces must be thoroughly cured and dry prior to application. Do not install over vinyl wallcovering and other non-porous surfaces, which may prevent appropriate curing and adhesion.
- Application
Apply adhesive with a 1/8” x 1/8” x 1/8” V-notch trowel or by cartridge application to either the back of the base or to the wall surface. Do not apply adhesive within 1/4” of the top of wall base, to prevent adhesive from squeezing out. Once adhesive is applied, wall base should be positioned immediately on the wall surface. Do not allow adhesive to dry or skin over. Adhesive that has dried or skinned over must be removed and reapplied. Roll wall base in the direction of the previously installed piece with a hand roller.
- Clean-up
Remove wet adhesive immediately with a clean cloth dampened with mineral spirits, isopropanol or acetone. Cured adhesive is very difficult to remove. Do not apply solvents directly to flooring. Use caution when handling flammable solvents.
