- Uses
Applications include O.E.M. heat exchangers, stack, incinerators, furnace exteriors, hot piping, mufflers, exhausts and other elevated temperature metal surfaces. Excellent for cookers, smokers and gas grills because of its excellent gloss and color retention.
- Surface Preparation
Surface must be clean and dry. All substrates must be cleaned free of dust, dirt, oil (including form oils & parting compounds), grease, soap residue, wax and flaking paint. Scuff sand slick, hard, glossy surfaces to promote adhesion. Sandblast or wire-brush rusty surfaces. Solvent wipe and /or detergent clean surface with 12 Paint Prep (Water-based Solvent Degreaser) according to SSPC-SP1. For optimum adhesion and corrosion resistance, rusted metal should be either sandblasted SSPC-10 and obtain a 1 to 1.5 mit (25-40 micron) blast profile. No primer is required but can be applied over inorganic zinc rich primer for increased performance. Refer to Surface Preparation Guide for more detailed instructions.
- Applications
- Mixing: Hand stir each container thoroughly before using and occasionally while applying. If necessary, thin sparingly with VM&P Naphtha.
- Application: May be applied by air, airless, air-assisted airless, turbo or HVLP spray. Reduce if necessary max of 10%. Product may also be applied by dip or flowcoat, but runs are more apparent with metallic flakes. Recommended tip size for airless or air assisted airless spray: .013” to .015” orifice. For air spray use 50 psi air pressure and 8 psi fluid pressure with .046” I.D fluid tip and appropriate air cap. 1.5 mils (40 microns) dry film thickness is recommended. Two coats are recommended over bare steel.
- Coverage: One gallon will cover approximately 400 square feet per coat on smooth surfaces. Coverage figure does not include spray loss, loss due to surface porosity, surface irregularities, nor material loss when mixing.
- Cleanup: Clean spills, spatters, hands, tools and other equipment promptly with VM&P Naphtha. Dispose of used paint and waste in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Follow manufacturer’s safety recommendations when using VM&P Naphtha.
- Application Precautions & Limitations: Apply when surface, air and product are above 40°F (4°C) and at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point.
