RA-42W is a water-based release coating and low adhesion backside (LAB) designed for tapes with paper as a substrate. Provides an easy-to-moderate release from adhesives that are based on acrylic, natural rubber, SBR or SIS block copolymers. Typical tape backings used with RA-42W are latex-impregnated crepe and flat papers. RA-42W are ready to use or maybe diluted with water to 20-40% total solids, depending on the paper, adhesive, and coating method that you choose. Coating methods include Mayer rod, rotogravure roll, knife over roll, and various slot/roll configurations. The recommendation for laboratory evaluation for a saturated crepe is as follows: Draw down the emulsion as is, or dilute with water using a #6 Mayer rod and dry in air oven at 100-150°C for 5 minutes or until dry. Dry coating weights may be in the 1-10 g/sm range depending on the paper’s porosity and degree of crepe and adhesive. In plant scale operations, release properties develop by flashing off the water at 120-175ºC (250-350°F) for 2-10 seconds, depending on web speed, oven length, drying air temperature and velocity, and oven configuration.
