Hummel Croton Inc. is a privately owned corporation that manufactures and distributes specialty inorganic and organic chemicals. Hummel Croton counts among its customers those in the fields of aerospace, automotive (air-bags), electronics, flame-retardants, metal processing, ordnance, pharmaceuticals, pollution controls, pyrotechnics, and textiles. Hummel Croton Inc was formed in 1989 with the merger of Hummel Chemical Company and Croton Chemical Company.


Hummel Chemical Company was founded In 1913 under a partnership of Mr. August Hummel and Mr. Robinson. Twenty years later Mr. Hummel acquired full control of the Company. The offices were on Cedar and West Streets in Lower Manhattan. The plant was located in Brooklyn. Mr. Hummel catered his business to the display fireworks industry. With the outbreak of World War II many of Mr. Hummel's display fireworks customers became ordnance manufacturers.

Hummel Croton Barium Sulfate is used for manufacturing photographic papers, artificial ivory, cellophane, filler for rubber, linoleum, oil cloth, polymeric fibers and resins, paper, lithographic inks, and as a water-color pigment for colored paper in wallpaper. It can be used as a size for modifying the colors of other pigments, in heavy concrete for radiation shield.

Hummel Croton Barium Sulfate

Hummel Croton Barium Carbonate is used as an ingredient of optical glass, porcelain enamel frit and ceramic glazes. It is used in the manufacture of various barium compounds including Barium Nitrate, Barium Oxide, Barium Hydrate, Barium Chromate, Barium Peroxide and Barium Titanate. It is also used by the chemical industry in removing sulfuric acid from liquids.

Hummel Croton Hydrazine Hydrate Solution 08-8089 is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and blowing agents. It can be used as polymerization catalysts, food additives, soldering fluxes and in manufacture of surfactants, detergents and plasticizer.

Hummel Croton Hydrazine Hydrate Solution 08-8102 is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and blowing agents. It can be used as polymerization catalysts, food additives, soldering fluxes and in manufacture of surfactants, detergents and plasticizer.

Hummel Croton Barium Chromate is used in anti-corrosive agent and is a pigment used by the paint industry. It is used in ignition control devices, safety matches and special pyrotechnic composition by the ordnance industry. It can be used as a coloring agent by the ceramic industry.

Hummel Croton Barium Peroxide is use as an oxidizer in various ordnance and pyrotechnic mixtures. It is also used to bleach animal substances, vegetable fibers and straw. It can also be used in the manufacturing of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Combine with aluminum it is used in the welding industry. It can be used as an oxidizer in organic synthesis.

Hummel Croton Zinc Oxide is used in photoconductors, seed treatments, pigment and mold growth inhibitors, ceramics, floor tiles and glass. It is also used as a flame retardant in paints.
