- Activity to treat damaged hair
Bleached human hair was soaked in a 5% ALGAE FILMER solution or ethanol solution (control) for ten minutes and left to dry. Then, the hair surface was observed using a scanning electron microscope. As a result, roughness on cuticles of hair treated with ALGAE FILMER reduced as compared with the control. The result indicates that ALGAE FILMER can treat damaged hair.
- Activity to enhance hair strength
Bleached human hair was soaked in a 5% ALGAE FILMER solution or ethanol solution
(control) for ten minutes, left to dry, and brushed one hundred times. Then the hair's tensile strength was measured using a rheometer. As a result, strength (tensile strength per sectional area) of hair treated with ALGAE FILMER signifi cantly increased as compared with the control. The result indicates that ALGAE FILMER can treat damaged hair and
enhance hair's strength.- Activity to retain moisture
Dried ALGAE FILMER and powder-state of sodium hyaluronate, polyvinyl alcohol PVA) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were left under high-temperature and highhumidity conditions (40°C , 90%) for 24 hours to let them absorb moisture. Then, they were left under a comfortableenvironment (21°C , 45%) for 24 hours and measured moisture content of the powders. As a result, moisture content in ALGAE FILMER was found to be similar to sodium hyaluronate. The result indicates that ALGAE FILMER can per form moisture retaining activity similar to the one of hyaluronic acid.
