Glutamate and sarcosinate salts are anionic amino acid bases surfactants that are used in cosmetics as mild surfactants with a lower irritation potential compared to other surfactants. Sarcosinates are also available in free acid form. Main application areas in cosmetics are: skin, hair and oral hygiene products, and in addition soap production; further application areas are sunscreens and creams. Besides the application in cosmetics these surfactants are also used in household, I&I and industrial products, e.g. as corrosion inhibitors in lubricants or metal working fluids, as rust preventatives, as fuel additives, as surfactant in various types of cleaners and as textile processing aids.
