Liceryl™ 12 is an ester derived from linoleic fatty acids and acts as a co-surfactant with emollient and solubilizing properties. It reduces skin redness and disruption of the skin barrier function caused by surfactant penetration. Liceryl™ 12 is synthesized with glycerin, an endogenous component of the skin known for its humectant properties. Linoleic acid is an unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid (18:2 -6) and is prevalent in soybean oil (Glycine max).

Technical Details & Test Data

The Solutions

Liceryl™-12 will increase the average diameter of SDS-micelles.

Clinical Efficacy

Effects of Liceryl™-12 in reducing SDS-induced skin barrier function disruption and erythema

  • Occlusive patches containing water, SDS, Liceryl™-12 or SDS/Liceryl™-12 combinations were applied on the skin of 15 subjects for 24 hours
  • TEWL and skin erythema were measured 15 minutes, 4 hours and 24 hours upon patch removal

Reduction of TEWL

  • The addition of LicerylTM-12 to SDS micelles prevents damages to the barrier function

Reduction of erythema

  • The addition of Liceryl™-12 to SDS micelles reduces skin erythema

Dynamic Light Scattering

  • Formation of micelles with an average diameter superior to that of SDS
